Great Moscow Fire of 1547

Post by Jim Eshelman » Wed Jan 16, 2019 2:20 pm

The Great Fire of Moscow began June 24, 1547, hour unknown, in Moscow, Russia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_of_Moscow_(1547)

Most of Moscow had been built of wood. This fire levelled most of the city, burning the Kremlin and igniting its gun powder stores. Between 2,700 and 3,700 people died (a number that, for some reason, does not include the number of children that died). Another 80,000 were displaced. Poverty was widespread and enormous in the aftermath.
