The largest lynching in U.S. history occurred not of blacks in the south, but of Chinese in Los Angeles' Chinatown. Between 17 and 20 were tortured then hanged by a mob of about 500 white men. Chinese homes in the area were invaded and looted (which was essentially the current Olivera Street location, across the street from what is now Union Station, a few block from current Chinatown).

The immediate trigger event was the death of a local rancher during a shoot-out by two different Chinese groups. I don't have a time, so shall use noon.
