The epicenter was only eight miles from Petit Trou de Nippes, Haiti. This has been a terrible year for Haiti (which doesn't have many great years in the first place): Their president was killed in a coup July 7, with political destabilization in its wake. They've never fully recovered from the 2010 quake (7.0), one of the most devastating anywhere. Probably this should also be studied for the capital city, Port-au-Prince, 80 miles away (I may do that in a second pass) because the impact on the nation as a whole is surely great; but I'll begin with a breakdown for the epicenter.
As JSAD's data list shows, this was felt over a wide area - as far away as 200 miles in Jamaica. So far, no fatalities have been reported, though I imagine that will change as news finally gets out (phone lines are currently down around the epicenter). There seems to have been terrible destruction (collapsed buildings etc.) which, besides threatening a higher death toll, will surely be a fresh economic blow to an already impoverished and unstable nation. People screaming from under heavy rubble has been reported. (The 2010 quake killed about 160,000 people.)
UPDATE (12/3): 2,248 deaths, 12,763 others injured, 329 missing. Economic damages estimated at > $1.5 billion (over 10% of Haiti's economy).
Tsunami warnings went out briefly, then were withdrawn. I don't think we can credit the just too much for my taste Jupiter appearances to that, so I regard them as inappropriate. For example, the CapQ is entirely inappropriate unless, miraculously, there turned out to be almost no casualties. However, transits to the Capsolar made up for it, and were more fundamental to the Bridge.
Haiti is on EDT, so the quake occurred 8:29 AM local time. As happens at least half the time, the event chart itself - chart for the moment and place of the quake - is not interesting at all. Nothing on angles. Not even any unusual gravitational stressors (Moon shy of first quarter, not near the ecliptic - at most, it was within a couple of days of perigee.) It isn't much improved for Port-au-Prince. (This isn't disappointing: It's routine that the event chart isn't very impressive.) Half an hour later, Neptune crossed Descendant. - So let's get to the meat of it, the Sidereal solar and lunar ingresses.

Thanks, Mike. That does get us away from that ugly Arisolar! As happens more often than not, this event suggests that the primary expression of astrology is through its impact on human experience, not its modification of natural phenomena.
