A severe, high-impact 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck China near Yongle, Xinua. (Chinese news said it was 7.0.) Casualties: 19 dead, 247 injured (40 seriously), 2,800 were evacuated, much serious damage occurred to buildings.

A further regional quake occurred 6.3 near Dostyq, Kazakhstan, a few hours later, August 8, 2017, 23:27:53 UT, 44.323N, 82.837E. This might be worth a secondary study, but I don't have any other news about it or its impact. I think the primary focus is on the first one.

The quake itself occurred exactly as Saturn crossed MC (0°30'), with Mercury-Neptune across horizon (Neptune only 0°51', so Saturn-Neptune is a 0°21' mundane square within a degree of the immediate angles). The ingresses mostly aren't that great, though (Cansolar pretty good). Daily markers then recover pretty well.

The "alt-right" aka white supremisists aka Klu Klux Klan aka neo-Nazis were holding a protest march in Charlottesville after invading the UVA campus there last night to assault students during a torch lit march (I said Klan march for a reason.) which was dispersed by police after they used homemade pepper spray and police style shields to assault people gathered to protest their march. A group of counter-protesters were gathering to march through the town center against the Klan when a car with license plates removed careened down a side street and plowed into the crowd, pushing two other vehicles into the crowd as well.

At least one person is apparently dead. Videos show people with legs torn off. The driver is supposed to be in custody.

Trump denounced violence during a ceremony to sign a bill for the Vets, but claimed there is bigotry on "all sides."

At 11:03 AM 08/12/2017 David Duke followed up on a tweet from Trump reminding him he was elected by white people not "leftists" and should be careful about insulting them.

According to the current mundane forecast thread today is the day the Arilunar comes in. It's dormant, so the Caplunar persists.

The Caplunar, applying to August 5 to September 2 (and especially to the fortnight August 5-19), is one of the year's best. During a time when Jupiter dominates all solar ingresses, Venus and Jupiter take the lead in the Month chart. Specifically, Venus is 0°06' from square Ascendant, in partile aspect with a foreground Jupiter.

One dead, 19 injured, one of the cars that was plowed into held a (white) mother and several children apparently just trying to get across town. The mother was bleeding badly from hitting the steering wheel. This was terrorism, plain and simple. This was Jupiter as hatred, bigotry and violence in defense of a xenophobic ideology.

EDIT 8/16: The city declared a state of emergency at 11:00 AM. State police declared the march an unlawful assembly at 11:40 AM and began dispersing the crowd. The vehicle assault (now formally branded a domestic terrorist attack) that left 1 person dead and 19 injured occurred at approximately 1:45 PM. Here is a summary in ongoing update:

Virginia's governor has declared a state of emergency after the outbreak JSAD reported above - a Klan march (with all the fixins) deemed the largest far-right march in at least a decade; a counter-protest; and a deadly car attack. Let's get the whole picture for the town where it occurred.

The mundane charts are essentially the same as the ones above. At the time of the crash, either Jupiter or Saturn was closer to an angle, depending on the exact time. (Jupiter exactly there for 5 PM straight up, Saturn there a bit earlier, closer to 4:30. Or maybe it's the Venus or Pluto, one or the other either side of EP-WP. Wow, exact time really matters for this one.

I'm betting something or other highlighted the Mercury-Neptune opposition, even though it isn't quite evident on anything I've examined.

No it was today. I'm not sure why I said the 11th. I've edited it above.
The "just before 5 PM" is from the State Police official notice. I haven't found any other time.

At 9 PM, Charlottesville PD announced they'd arrested a 20 year old man from Ohio for 2nd degree murder as well as several hit and run counts. At 10PM the State Police announced they'd arrested a man from Florida, one from Tennessee and one from a half hour outside Charlottesville for assault and disorderly conduct. There have been very few arrests, and the Charlottesville PD is being questioned pretty closely for not preventing contact between the Klan-Nazis and the counter-protesters.

The daily indicators for today weigh very heavily on that town. This is kinda insane. (Or it may be that I'm just in that head space because I'm currently working on something about Neptune, and everything seems unreal.)

Switching to today puts a Moon-Sun-Saturn grand trine anchored by Moon on IC. The Mercury-Neptune I was looking to highlight gets extra attention because Mercury is stationary today.

At 5:00 PM today exactly, we have the following angularities:

Following aggressive rains, massive mudslides killed hundreds of people yesterday (8/14/17) near Freetown, Sierra Leone (the capital). So far, 205 bodies have been recovered and over a1,000 people are missing and suspected dead. Buildings have been destroyed and homes submerged in some areas. Psychological impact on the whole nation is extensive, of course. (UPDATE 8/17: 331 dead.)

Freetown has gotten triple its normal rainfall this summer, pretty consistently pounding the country since the start of July.

One tweet was already speaking of this by 5 AM Pacific Time yesterday (before noon in Sierra Leone). One report spoke of mudslides sweeping through "early this morning" (local time). I'm going to use 6 AM as a working time. The Caplunar is especially telling - and then the Arilunar essentially copies it! The CapQ is a perfect chart for floods (only a little Saturn would improve it).

The city does seem to be reacting strongly, at least from police-centered newscasts.

A major contributor is the Chart of the Week, the Arilunar. Most angular is Saturn, minutes from exact square to MC. Next is a 26' Moon-Uranus mundane conjunction, and close Moon-Mars mundane square. Next is Venus, but specifically a Venus-Pluto opposition. Finally, the foreground Pluto gets a close square from a non-angular Jupiter. All of those points are right on target.

They're already under a dramatic, potentially homicidal Cansolar, with Venus-Neptune right on the angles and a 62' Moon-Mars mundane square.

That Cansolar also seems to provide the daily timing. For the longer, middleterm run, Neptune has been transiting Cansolar WP (concurrently square its Venus). Today CanQ angles hit Cansolar Jupiter, which is closely squared by Pluto.

The time has been narrowed down to 5 PM or a little after local time. First reports were posted at 5:14PM. At least one dead, up to 13, thirty to fifty injured badly enough to be taken to hospitals, at least ten severely injured, and the driver, and maybe an accomplice may be holed up in a local bar in a standoff with police, but that is unconfirmed by the police.

And, though I think everybody already knew this was the case, it's now being officially called a terrorist attack.

LATER: Even more officially a terrorist attack, since ISIL has taken credit for it. It is now on the books as Spain's worst terrorist attack since 2004.

"In the early hours of Friday morning, in the town of Cambrils, 70 miles away (from Barcelona), seven people were hurt when "alleged terrorists" drove into pedestrians before being shot dead by security forces.

The five attackers in the Audi A3 were shot dead, police said. Some of them wore what looked like explosive belts.

One of the injured in Cambrils is in critical condition, emergency services said.

"The alleged terrorists were in an Audi A3 and apparently knocked down several people before coming across a police patrol and a shoot-out ensued," said a spokesman for the regional government of Catalonia, where Cambrils is located in Spain's northeast."

In other news, a man tried to run over a police officer at a barricade in SE Barcelona and was shot dead. Incident is believed to be unrelated to the terror attack.

A U.S. Navy warship, the USS John S. McCain, collided at open sea (near Singapore) with a Liberian commercial tanker, presumably killing 10 sailors who remain missing.

The collision occurred at 5:24 AM local time, very close to Singapore. (If I don't find exact coordinates, Singapore will be close enough.)

I saw 6:24 a.m. Japan Standard Time according to Fox News who talked to the US NAvy, but NBC news said "just before dawn" so that should help if there's a discrepancy. The ship has arrived at Changi Naval Base in Singapore under it's own power.

ETA: The Washington Post has "The accident, which occurred east of the Strait of Malacca about 5:24 a.m. local time"
The difference is the ship is based in Japan and it uses the time from it's base (all US Navy ships do) rather than local time. It's common the ship's crew doesn't even know what time it is locally.

The Liblunar occurs tonight at 6:19 PM CDT. For, say, Galveston it has marks of rain, plus Mars square MC, which is typical of severe force of winds and storm damage (and, with the widely foreground Venus, lots of rain). Before that hour, though, the Canlunar is in force which, also for Galveston, has Pluto exactly rising plus a Sun-Mars conjunction on WP (something that doesn't show on the maps).

Harvey is expected to make landfall tonight or tomorrow.

So, my prediction is that if it hits before 6:19 PM, it will be quite devastating. If it hits after that, its effect on Texas will fall short of devastating and be better described as forceful and destructive.

New Orleans has a very threatening Caplunar this month (Saturn-Neptune) for which I specifically forecast problems to include this sort of weather impact. They can't take much rain at the moment, so even a weakened storm will hit them badly. The Canlunar is fine for them, but the Liblunar places Mars right through mid-Louisiana, and still closely angular in NOLA. The prediction from tis is the same as the common-sense one: The storm will impact as far east as NOLA, it will impact them after 6:19 PM tonight, and even if they only get a run-down storm, it will result in severe flooding.

Earlier today (8/28/17), North Korea fired a missile that passed completely over Japan.

Tokyo has a pretty threatening Cansolar. Mars is on WP < 2° square a Moon-Uranus conjunction on IC (Moon half a degree off). Pluto is < 3° from Asc. Jupiter brings a little grace by squaring Asc, but that also emphasizes the geopolitical Jupiter-Pluto square.

The Caplunar is also quite threatening, with a Sun-Mars conjunction at MC, Mars being in Jupiter's hypsoma and < 3° from MC, Sun a little farther. Uranus is near Descendant.

With a dormant Liblunar, the Week chart is still the Canlunar, with the Mercury-Neptune opposition angular: Mercury exactly setting, Neptune partile square MC. Add some Sun-Mars for spice, and a Moon-Venus conjunction for "no harm."

For the day, CanQ angles touch the ingress' Venus-Neptune square plus transiting Sun: "This is just an entertainment, kids. Hope you enjoyed the show."
