Jerry Lewis

Post by Jim Eshelman »

RIP Jerry Lewis. He helped mark an era of comedy, and then turned great celebrity into a brand that has ploddingly, persistently, effectively campaigned for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for 60 years.

I think, especially for those who didn't know him in his comedy heyday, he had become a cliché. What a blessing to have lived a life where your decades-long push for something good and compassionate becomes that established and commonplace!

An outlandish figure, Lewis was a Pisces-Aries (Mars in Capricorn) with a 0°03' Sun-Uranus conjunction on Midheaven - a true explosive clown of a comedian. Furthermore, the Sun-Uranus were in partile mundane square to a rising Pluto (Sun-Pluto was 0°09'). Ecliptically, Mercury squared the rising Pluto within about half a degree. Mars was also foreground, and partile sextile the Sun-Uranus (02' to Sun).

Last Vegas put his natal Venus-Jupiter on Midheaven, and he settled there was his personal and professional home

If his birthtime were just a couple of minutes earlier, Pluto would have been transiting his Descendant for his death; but it was 1°26' shy for the recorded birthtime.

The only transit of note for his death, then, was more of a clincher than anything else: Transiting Sun squared natal Saturn +39'.

There was evidently peace at the end of his life: Progressed Venus squared his natal Venus +04' and his natal Jupiter -47'.

His final Sidereal Solar Return had a partile Sun-Saturn square foreground (which also means his natal Uranus was involved). As with progressions, there was a mark of peace in his last months, with SSR Moon partile square his natal Venus-Jupiter.

His July 31 met the "death chart" qualifications well enough, and then, again, emphasized kinder things. Saturn was widely (< 3°) on WP, Neptune 4°+ off MC. The other side is Venus rising, with a partile foreground Venus-Neptune square. Venus squares his natal Sun-Uranus, and precisely squares his natal MC. There's a lot of Venus in these charts for the end.

First name at birth is incorrect in AstroData Bank. It was Jerome, not Joseph.

As an experiment, I checked his PSN (just the quickie mean calculation, not worried about the angles). It shows:

p Sun sq. p Mars +10' - exactly at t Pluto!
t Neptune sq. p Venus -12'
t Mars sq. p Saturn -46'
t Sun op. p Jupiter +23'

The main dramatic structure was this:

22°13' Sag t Pluto
22°25' Pis p Mars
22°35' Gem p Sun
