Hurricane Patricia

Post by Jim Eshelman »

October 23, 2015, 6:15 PM CDT, Cuizmala (Cuixmala), Mexico

It remains the second most intense tropical cyclone on record worldwide (behind Typhoon Tip) and the most intense in the western hemisphere ever. It reached 215 mph winds October 23, and caused $460 million in damages (2015 value). Thirteen deaths occurred.

Late on October 23 it made landfall near Cuixmala, Jalisco, Mexico with 150 mph winds. The time of landfall is usually given as "late" or "night," but a contemporary report by Surfline lists 4:15 PM PDT. This fits with other reports as it was approaching but hadn't yet hit.
