2018 Midterms

Post by Jim Eshelman »

I wanted to make some remarks that don't exactly fit anywhere else, so I'm starting a thread on the midterm elections in in 11 months.

I'm starting to think that predicting such elections in the broadest way might be more effective than the historic approach of doing it in the narrowest way. In particular, I'm curious about the October 18, 2018 Libsolar.

For Washington, the chart is pretty simple: Pluto is on IC (1°33'). This means an uprooting, an overturning of foundations. Additionally, we see extreme conflict and scathing levels of competition to the point of violence, with Moon conjunct Mars 0°35'. (Moon-Mars closely squares Mercury.)

Mercury is 0°48' past the Antivertex in azimuth. Uranus is 2°35' past Vertex. This puts them in 1°47' PVP opposition right along the prime vertical. Let's just call this "surprises," though there might be a lot more to it than that (especially cyber concerns).

So the underlying message is clear: The nation, as a whole, is ready by November 6 to uproot what is there, to fight fiercely as if life is on the line; and there will be extreme surprises.

A Liblunar on Election Day has Sun exactly square Ascendant. Even though it isn't a presidential election, attention is entirely on the president (whoever it happens to be at the moment). One might well say that "It's all about the White House." That Sun on Nadir is partile mundane square Mars, emphasizing the contentiousness. (There is more.)

So... with this tone... there is only one serious question left in my mind: By November 6, 2018, who will Americans overall regard as the "Old Guard"? Whoever it is, Americans overall will try to expel them. Similar (though, frankly, far more extreme) astrological indications in 2016 marked extreme populist fever with a desire to cast out anyone who looked like a conventional politician and, especially, to eject the "governing party," the Democrats. Has that flipped now, i.e., do Republicans in general, or old guard Republicans in particular, or everyone currently in office, or... some other group... represent the presence that voters, acting like antibodies, will repel?

I think we can say that success in the 2018 elections will depend on whoever (in general, or in a particular contest) can present himself or herself as the greater rebel.

How will the world look in general at that point? The 2018 Capsolar is broadly tough for the world in general. By Election Day, we will still have Saturn and Pluto in Sagittarius (perhaps the strongest sign passages of the year) and Neptune in Aquarius. Uranus will be well settled into Aries. The newest factor will be Jupiter's presence in Scorpio. Election Day also is the end of Mars' transit of Capricorn (near its exaltation degree), so the weeks leading up to the election will be keenly marked by Mars in Capricorn.

There are, at the time, no close aspects between the outer six planets.

I don't know who will be president next November. There is serious reason to believe it won't be Trump, who is headed for a severe crisis at the end of January (bleeding into February) 2018. But, for the moment, let's assume that it's him, or at least that he has a gigantic stake in the outcome of the 2018 midterms. How happy is he on Election Day and the day after?

Quotidians don't help at all for the :"spin of the wheel" up-or-down read on his day next November 6.

The best first-impression read of his feelings is that transiting Jupiter is roughly square his Ascendant. It's not as close as we'd like, and may be addressing more things before and after. I*'m not sure it's a factor on Election Day. OTOH, transiting Mars squares his natal MC. I anticipate, from this, a rebuke of him that day (if he is still a factor at all).

His June 2018 SSR is severe, with a mundane Moon-Mercury-Saturn-Uranus close T-square foreground. He does have one SSR-related good mark, which is transiting Sun conjunct SSR Jupiter in Election Day. I'm not sure how much weight to give this.

His SLR October 14, covering the month that ends a few days after the election, has Pluto setting and square Sun. It's not super-close, but it's pretty close. Same for Saturn technically not (but not closely) WP. So far, this SLR looks like a hard blow, negative impact set of evens, but not a major event. -But he's not feeling goot about it, with natal Neptune the degree of IC, and natal Saturn 2° below Asc.

Closer to the election - on October 28 - he has a Demi-SLR. Pluto is half a degree from IC. That "uprooting" I mentioned in the last post is exactly replicated here. This chart is a severe blow to him - wider orbs have become narrower orbs in the Demi. Impact has intensified. Furtghermore, his natal Jupiter rises pretty closely - but I can't take this as a positive factor, since that angular Pluto squares his natal Jupiter 0°29'.

These are downfall charts,

So, to the extent Donald Trump is still heavily invested in the outcome of the 2018 midterm elections, it looks to me like "his team" (Republicans in general? Bannon-sponsored candidates in particular?) experiences a devastating loss.

Of some interest... Saturn is half a degree from Mike Pence's Saturn on Election Day. It is direct in motion and might be the final pass of his Saturn Return (I haven't checked). This marks a destiny moment.

If my speculations are right about his birth time, this also marks transiting Saturn conjoining his MC.

He also will have just experienced a Jupiter Return a few weeks earlier: He's in a new 12-year Jupiter cycle. But Mars squares his Jupiter on Election Day. In some fashion its net effect is to cost him money, or cost him resources, standing, dignity. This may be a passing thing.

I don't think looking at Trump's moods is going to be helpful. He's so insulated by his staff and his certainty of his own opinions, his moods have very little to do with what's actually going on in Washington, the country or the world. Honestly, if Trump has a busy exciting happy SQ, I'd be scared it meant he finally got North Korea to launch a missile at Los Angeles.

You guys know me well by now. I am always on the look-out for a wager with odds in favor of my possible future wager. Just notice something, t Jup is partile 90 Trump's Natal Asc on Midterm election day. :| And the t. Moon conjoins t. Jupiter on election day. I will certainly be paying attention to public opinion polls & media polls---with Vegas odds on Election Day. But t. Mars is partile t-squaring Trump's Natal MC-IC, maybe an off-set to this benefic Jup transit. Anyway--very interesting transits to his Natal ANGLES, which are the cornerstones of Sidereal Astrology.

Jupiter is not partile. That's why I downscaled it.

His natal Asc is 5°59' Leo. For Washington, the local Asc is 2°54' Leo.

At the close of polls on the West Coast, at 8 PM PST November 6, 2018, Jupiter is 4°42' Scorpio. It's one of the few windows during that time that he does not have Jupiter on one of these angles.

Ah, I did the election for Nov 8 which I mistakenly read as Jup partile 90 n. Asc. Still we have to allow t. Jup tight 90 n. Asc, with it coming exact right after election--not good for Trump experiencing a malefic result for election--but as you pointed out--other malefic stuff in the stack of charts. :)

The one partile transit to a natal angle on Election Day is Mars Square his MC.

So he'll be peeved and think he and his presidency are under attack. Nothing new there.
