USA Mundane Forecast
for the four weeks beginning April 8, 2018

If you are unfamiliar with the methods and interpretations of Sidereal mundane astrology, see my free book Sidereal Mundane Astrology. (A link to the current edition can always be found near the top of the Publications sub-forum.) For standard interpretations, see Chapter 7.

LONG-TERM (Solar Ingress) PATTERNS
The 12 months beginning January 15, 2018 are a stronger, less forgiving version of 2016: unstable, revolutionary, revising, remapping, anti-establishment, and often anti-government. Washington's Capsolar has Pluto square Ascendant (0°08'), and Uranus on Westpoint (0°42'). A spirit of revolution assaults current systems, tearing at iconic structures. Victory in the 2018 elections will tend to fall to whomever can present himself or herself as the greater rebel.

PLUTO signals high-impact events that sever connections. Mainstream and counter-establishment sensibilities confront each other. Events are fiercely political, such as leader crises, financial crises, and severing historic relations. Natural disasters include hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods. URANUS signals explosions (literal or metaphorical); sudden rupture, shock, surprise, and overflowing normal boundaries and limitations. Expect disclosures and revelations, surprise attacks, changes in leadership, protests, revolts, and their suppression.

Changes in foreign relations are a certainty with a foreground SUN-VENUS-URANUS. Venus-Uranus also signals shifting social values, including increased liberty in Venus matters. What would 2018's version of legalizing same-sex marriage be? Uranus and Pluto insist on startling us with the unlikely and unconceived. "Culture wars" kick up more intensely for the midterm elections. The voice of rebellion is concentrated on those in the highest office.

For the whole world, MOON CONJOINS MERCURY and SATURN. While Moon-Jupiter aspects in recent Capsolars brought economic recovery, expect the opposite from Moon-Saturn. Recession is not unthinkable. Capsolars had close Moon-Saturn aspects in 1819, 1837, and 2008, which should concern students of American money crises. Its record for violent inhumanity is heart-stopping. Climate destabilization will escalate faster in 2018 than in previous years, with tragic, life-smashing consequences.

From Mercury + Saturn, expect worldwide restrictions, delays, failures, and calamity relating to transportation and communication breakdowns. Communication fails for technical reasons and because people stop listening to each other. Data integrity is increasingly doubted: Cybersecurity becomes a greater priority than cyber-expansion. Commerce is interrupted: More newspapers go out of business, and more small businesses close their doors. Information flow is interrupted and rationed. Moon-Mercury keeps our attention on the media which, itself, is much of the story. Moon-Saturn signals hardship, narrowing, sacrifice, loss, and sadness, with little cause for celebration. Bereavement for widely beloved figures, deprivation and disappointment, destructive assaults by people and nature, and other forms of hardship focus primarily on alienation and divisiveness. It will be a good year for undertakers.

With Saturn in Sagittarius, internationalism, immigration, aviation, elitism, hierarchical economic separation, and missiles take up much of our headline space for 2018.

Finally, Washington has a Mars-Jupiter PVP conjunction. This furthers the concerns of financial crisis. It could be as slight as the government shutdown of 2013 or as ravaging as the market crash of 1929, but probably will be something between. Resources are squandered, stretched past capacity. Religious evangelism and other belief-driven enthusiasm and aggression accelerate. Bigots have louder voices. In nature, as in human affairs, expect stormy weather.

The Arisolar (April 14) is dormant for Washington, DC, but adds (until mid-July) a further edge of violence and hardship: Arisolar Moon squares Saturn (2°24' in eclipto) and Mars (a blisteringly tight 0°09' in mundo).

MEDIUM-TERM PATTERNS (The Bridge)
Transiting Pluto crosses Capsolar IC all month The individual Bridge zones all involve Mars or Saturn.

April 8-29 (with only a one-day gap on 4/16), Mars either crosses Cansolar Descendant or squares Capsolar Ascendant, marking a MARS-PLUTO zone. Especially after the 17th when Mars and Pluto transit the same ingress, expect violent, ferocious, even explosive unleashing of force (such as explosions, accidents, war-like aggression, mass shooting, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and fires that release explosive force). The pair is broadly disrespectful of law, and harvests the consequences of accumulated stresses.

April 30, Saturn enters 1° conjunction with progressed Capsolar Moon. World wide, under this aspect we always experience a heightened frequency of acute, deadly tragedies. In past times, new ones have dominated headlines almost daily. The most acute time is April 30 to May 1, when Mars and Pluto simultaneously transit Capsolar angles while Saturn conjoins CapQ Moon, a MARS-SATURN-PLUTO zone. These two days are the center of severe crises and hurtful aggression.

Then, May 2-6, Mars pulls away to leave a SATURN-PLUTO zone. Besides the general severe expectations of the Saturn-Moon transit, Saturn + Pluto signals dramatic hardship, sometimes with an apocalyptic feel, and catastrophic disasters with profound feelings of irrevocable loss or separation. (Notice that we are entering America's tornado season.)

SHORT-TERM (Lunar Ingress) PATTERNS

Caplunar (Apr 8)
The Caplunar covers April 8 to May 6 (especially the first two weeks, April 8-22). This month, things will get very, very weird.

I say that, first, because the entire month is dominated by NEPTUNE, a planet essentially unrepresented in this year's stack of charts. Both the Caplunar and Canlunar have Neptune as their only angular planet, while the Arilunar is dormant; so, for nearly all month, Neptune is the chief force sitting atop the Capsolar's symbolism and its severe Mars and Saturn transits.

Angular Neptune always signals extreme excitement, whether happy or unhappy: the insanity of a crowd, as at a major sporting event or acting as a mob: madness, panic, confusion, uncertainty, disorientation, and a gripping sense of, “So, what happens now?”

That will likely be the prevailing question of the month: "What happens now?"

Specific types of events linked to angular Neptune include fires, earthquakes, tornadoes, and building collapses, plus deaths or resignation of leaders (which stir doubt and uncertainty), mass shootings, financial panic, and mobs of all types (whether mindless herd-torrents or waves of people driven by a shared vision).

And the month is even weirder - more "out there" and "beyond belief" - because Uranus and Pluto join Neptune in defining it. Moon squares Uranus 0°25' in mundo, and conjoins Pluto more widely. Follow the Bridge above to see the broader periods to which the public will be reacting.

April 11-12, CanQ angles cross ingress Saturn and Neptune, for the center of the worst days. (The Cansolar Venus-Neptune square is brought exactly to the angles, with Saturn at MC.)

Arilunar (Apr 15)
The Arilunar covers April 15-22. However, it is technically dormant: Its closest angularity is Uranus 3°04' from Descendant. These 3° thresholds are not precise, though I do expect the Caplunar to continue to dominate the week.

Uranus, though, will make its mark. Moon, Sun, and Uranus are all conjunct in the wider foreground, affecting the whole world just by their aspect. Moon conjunct Sun is closest (0°58'), so the time will feel like a "phase change," a time of shift. These changes are not gradual or subtle: For a week, we have a flavor of the startling, shifting, and rebellious. That this overlaps a Mars-Pluto Bridge zone makes it even explosive.

As the week begins with CapQ angles touching Uranus and Saturn, all the Arilunar Uranian phenomena should be obvious right out of the gate. The Capsolar's Moon-Mercury-Saturn crosses angles over the course of the week. On 4/18, a Sun-Uranus conjunction crosses CapQ IC, with Moon-Mercury-Saturn also angular; Sun suggests the president is directly involved in the main events of the five days centered on the 18th. (Saturn and Neptune continue to plague the CanQ angles for several days.)

Canlunar (Apr 22)
The Canlunar covers April 22-29. Once more, Neptune is the only angular planet (0°19' from Ascendant). The only other important feature is a wide Moon-Pluto opposition. The interpretation is not significantly different from that of the Caplunar.

Sun and Saturn conjointly cross CapQ angles on the 22nd and 23rd: Historically, such crossings are bad for those in power.

Liblunar (Apr 28)
The Liblunar covers April 28 to May 13 (since the next Caplunar is dormant). After nearly a month of Neptune, it shakes us out of our slumber with dramatic aggressive, even violent intensity. Pluto conjoins Mars (1°11') on IC, signifying ferocious and possibly explosive unleashing of force. The aspect is broadly disrespectful of law. Cumulative stresses (psychological or physical) reach their breaking point.

Moon squares Mars in the foreground (2°32'). This intensifies fury and (if operating typically) adds destruction and loss of life.

This all occurs under a volatile Capsolar, with hurtful Moon aspects in the new Arisolar, while transiting Saturn conjoins Capsolar Moon. One dislikes continuing to predict hardship, hatred, destruction, struggle, and loss of life, but those are the shared characteristics of the time. Were a milder expression to win out (since nothing is partile, though many things are close), one still must expect heightened conflict and (especially with the Arisolar) outright hatred, with opposing forces contending aggressively on, perhaps, gun control issues.

One final factor is the Moon/Mercury midpoint on the horizon (0°36'). This is much less dramatic than the rest of the chart; it is difficult to know what to say. Generally, it means much media involvement and close scrutiny, but that's a foregone conclusion if anything like the above occurs. If there is violence, it will have a strong tactical character, whether directly military or by the nature of an assailant's preparation: planned, well-executed attacks rather than emotional lashing out. For this two weeks, watch carefully for strategy behind such actions.

Sun and Pluto occupy CapQ angles together May 4, so this (plus or minus two days) is when these events concentrate in Washington.

Trump Watch

Post by Jim Eshelman » Tue Mar 27, 2018 8:25 am

PROGRESSIONS
  • Progressed Saturn conjoins progressed Midheaven. We have watched the president's position weaken from challenges, increasing burdens, threats, and losses. His long-term picture is dire professionally, politically, and regarding health.
  • Compounding the sense of personal crisis, progressed Moon conjoins progressed Pluto until April 11. Already, under this progression, he has notably cast out, or been abandoned by, numerous aids and appointees in short order. Expect separation, isolation, a wish to escape pressing conditions, and some sort of culmination that involves crossing a threshold with no going back.
  • Progressed Mars sextile natal Pluto marks aggression, explosive temper, and other forms of spilling immeasurable force, and is notorious for cumulative physical and emotional stress (emerging as a health crisis?).
  • A positive, even protective pattern for Trump began last month. With a long-term progressed Venus conjunct natal Jupiter and trine natal Venus, he now has progressed Sun semi-square natal Jupiter as well.
TRANSITS
  • All month, SATURN opposes natal MERCURY. This usually brings frustrating interruptions (things just not working) and communications breakdowns. He likely feels unheard, criticized, and discouraged. It would be a great aspect to use, instead, for detailed mental labor and organizing facts, but that's not his usual style.
  • Until April 18 (and exact April 8), once more JUPITER aspects natal NEPTUNE. This eases psychological pressures and brings hope and religious-like faith in one's dreams and ideas.
SIDEREAL SOLAR RETURN
Please see the June forecast for an analysis of Trump's Sidereal Solar Return.
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=1450#p8523

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (Apr 5)
Mixed messages are mostly (but not entirely) positive. Most strongly, Jupiter conjoins SLR Ascendant (0°37'). Nothing else is nearly so strong. President Trump experiences a positive month of successes and heightened esteem. Things seem to go his way. Often he travels under such indications. Natal Mars is the only other foreground planet (3°19' from MC), so he is especially feeling his strength and virility. He's the cock of the walk, as folks used to say.

One other complex of planets has a loud voice from the background: Both Mars and Saturn oppose natal Mercury within 1° (their midpoint 0°04' from Mercury). These show harsh, difficult, unfortunate Mercury conditions. Now, what could this be? It doesn't take any such aspects for Trump to give or receive bad Mercury, i.e., for him to spew vitriol or come under attack; these are almost daily events. No, this is something else. Despite Jupiter, he certainly doesn't feel that his ideas are well-received, or that anyone is listening to him. His own words are now what hurt him most, coming back not just to haunt him but to wound him. His mind and nerves are under severe stress.

Yet, with Jupiter exactly rising, this is not a month when he comes to any great harm.

Progressed Sun hovers near SNQ Ascendant for the first few days, crossing it exactly April 9: He is not shy about using an imperial fiat wherever possible.

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN (Apr 19)
Having nearly the same Ascendant degree, the Demi-SLR is nearly the same as the April 5 SLR in all important respects. Jupiter rises within 1°. Natal Mars is less than a degree from Midheaven. Saturn (but not Mars) still opposes his Mercury.

We must conclude, therefore, that the main events of this month occur in its second half. In nearly all respects, this is a wonderful chart! The rising Jupiter is opposite Venus, the main aspect of the chart; and, though Venus is only moderately foreground, it sits 1° from his natal Midheaven. Such charts show enormous happiness, winning, optimism, and rewards. Popularity surges, friends receive him warmly, and he seems on top of the world. The feelings and social rituals resemble those that most people associate with weddings and the births of children.

His Mars exactly culminates. Venus squares his Mars ecliptically, and Jupiter squares it mundanely (while transiting Mars squares his Jupiter 0°20' in the background). Were he a young man, this would resemble a spring break orgy. As it is, he feels his exultant strength and relishes in his enhanced esteem, perhaps coming into his own as Alpha Male of the Planet as he never has before.

But in the background, Saturn still opposes his Mercury (0°43'), while Mercury opposes his Neptune (1°09'). Demons lurk in the shadows. Amidst friends and celebrations, he quietly fears betrayal, his mind toxic from the poisons quietly seeping into him from his surroundings.

On 4/25, transiting Neptune crosses SNQ Descendant. As it is not a terribly important crossing alone, watch for him to yield hungrily to temptation or suffer embarrassment (scandal?) from outside presences. Natal Uranus snaps him alert and awake 4/29 and 5/1.

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN (May 3)
With Ascendant 25° Libra in his prior Lunar and Demi-Lunar, it flips to 25° Aries for his new Lunar Return; meaning that, once more, Jupiter is exactly angular (0°12' from Descendant). Sun, just past rising, opposes Jupiter mundanely. These are marks of royalty and distinction. Natal Venus widely on IC suggests a bit of peace; perhaps he has been travelling and is glad to be home.

But the pattern is starting to change. He still has momentum from April's wins, but new circumstances start asserting themselves. Uranus squares SLR Midheaven, and squares natal Mars in mundo. New conditions stir him to renewed boldness, risk-taking, even sexual adventure - above all, wanting plenty of "elbow room," to be free of interference or coercion.

Uranus also squares his Venus (ecliptically). These charts really do have the feel of a man on new sexual adventures, which one does not usually expect to be public for a married, high-visibility politician. Otherwise, we see rapid changes in many other relationships. If there are more Executive Branch heads that haven't rolled, they should update their resumes.

Saturn still opposes his Mercury. As one might expect, his bold new surge does not go unopposed. He has a hard time getting the audience he most wants, and his own words are at risk of hurting him. Finally, in the immediate background, Mars opposes his Saturn (0°15'). Struggle is brewing.

His quotidian meridian 5/5 aligns with progressed Uranus' 0°07' opposition to natal Moon. It is a day of psychological renewal, abrupt shifts, or intriguing discovery.

Tomorrow, Mars begins about five days of conjoining Capsolar Pluto. Please watch and see if we notice this worldwide (including where you are).

Based on last month's monitoring, I suspect this will especially show where Pluto is exactly angular in the Capsolar (so that Mars is transiting the angle at the same time). Here are some of those places:

Eastern United States from western Pennsylvania straight south to Miami.
But also the whole U.S., because one line is near Washington, and from mid-NY through eastern NC.
Cuba and coastal Ecuador (maybe Peru).

Southeast Asia, Malaysia, western Indonesia.

Central Africa along a line from Gabon through Libya, plus Nigeria north to Algeria.
Turkey, parts of Russia,

Central-to-eastern Europe, primarily the border of Germany and Italy against France.

Yes, yesterday came-up on my computer reminder alert for mundane alert, and Sunday will alert me to the same Mars-transit to Personal points involving Pluto with wife and her sister. Very volatile combo not to be ignored.

t Jupiter conj. Capsolar Jupiter April 24 to END (exact 5/2)
Today begins a couple of weeks when transiting Jupiter is partile conjunct Capsolar Jupiter. With what I''ve been seeing, these do show, but specifically for where they are angular.

Jupiter in the Capsolar is moderately conjunct Mars, so this may not be unconditional goodness. (It might be, though, with the two Jupiter both exactly on an angle somewhere, and Mars still a few degrees away.) If not positive, we would expect fiscal problems and belief-fuelled conflict.

Worldwide, in the Capsolar itself, Jupiter is on the horizon up the middle (the whole length) of South America, but missing the heavily populated coastal areas and most of the volatile capitals. Inland Argentina plus Paraguay probably get the strongest effect. - Ah, but the square to MC passes through Brasilia, and near some cities on Brazil's more southern coastline, so Brazil is right on the money.

More discernible, probably, will be its impact in Asia, where the Jupiter line passes not far from Beijing (a little wide: 3°) and right through Manila (partile). (In Australia it passes through Alice Springs and Adelaide.)

Another significant impact (Jupiter on MC) is in Moscow and - quite exactly - Damascus (0°05'; and, more generally, the whole cluster of Syria, Israel 1-2°, Lebanon). It then moves down the eastern part of Africa, including Nairobi. A square line passes through both Riyadh (1°26') and Tehran (0°42') - so, just exactly what kind of diplomacy is suddenly spreading itself all over the Middle East?

That's my best guess.

Given the Giuliani revelation last night, and Trump' fairly frantic efforts to get out of the way of the bullets this morning, I think I didn't emphasize Mars' transit to his Saturn nearly enough. (It's background in the new SLR, but partile.) In fact, the only thing I probably got right (in these first few hours of the month) is that the tide is turning and that Uranus brings surprises. Jupiter partile conjunct Descendant seemed the stronger factor.

Guliani is saying this morning that N. Korea will be releasing three Americans being held there today. No sign he's right yet. Trump has said previous administrations didn't do much to help the Americans being detained in N. Korea. Out of the three, two were detained since Trump took office, so I guess he's right about that.

So far, these transit to Capsolar planets have been working quite well if used as follows: Look at all transits by major planets (Mars outward) to all Capsolar planets, and assume the effect will show where the Capsolar planet was angular at the time of the Capsolar. (Secondarily, it may be where it is angular in the CapQ.)

For example, Saturn is on IC in this year's Capsolar for Austin. As Mars transited Capsolar Saturn, it also crossed Capsolar IC for Austin. Result: The Austin bombings.

Or, Jupiter is on WP in this year's Capsolar for the Korean peninsula. As Jupiter transited Capsolar Jupiter, it also crossed Capsolar WP for Korea. Result: Historic diplomatic breakthroughs in diplomacy between North Korea and South Korea.

Notice that this is a new tactic, not a new method. It relies on things we already know work: one planet on the angle of the Capsolar for the year, another transiting that angle, and their aspect. It's become a way to "catch" setup-and-trigger scenarios we might otherwise miss.

So, with transiting Mars conjunct Capsolar Venus right now, I'd been scanning the news looking for something fitting the symbolism. Would this be international tensions and friction (as often is the case in mundane astrology with Venus-Mars)? Something about sex? Something else? I wasn't finding anything except, well, the Nobel committee did announce that there would be no Literature prize this year because several selection committee members resigned over a sex scandal. You don't suppose....

Yes! Pop up the Capsolar for Stockholm and Venus is exactly on the Eastpoint! (This doesn't show in an astromap.) Therefore, transiting Mars is currently on Stockholm's Capsolar EP, conjoining the Venus.

This is a very promising tactic.

PS - If we ever want a way to narrow these from all the possible locations, the current lunar ingress probably is the key. For example, look at the current (April 28) Liblunar for Stockholm: Neptune square Ascendant, Venus setting, Moon at MC, Mars-Pluto conjunction on EP.

looking at the natal for Israel which celebrates 70 years on the 14th of May a couple of things jumped out at me... Its S/R and the New Moon which occurs an hour earlier... when coupled with the Israeli natal in a Bi-wheel a number of ideas present themselves...

I don't pretend to clearly understand it!

Signs such as Natal Uranus conjunct S/R Venus = Love their Independence
New Moon(Sun) Mars square Uranus configured with natal Mars also the Mars square Uranus & Pluto are configured to the angles of the natal = Fight for Freedom becomes apparent and engaged... Is it a war? I sense going back to the Capsolar and seeing the New Moon Mars conjunct the Capsolar ASC of Jerusalem.

At the time of the upcoming New Moon the Israeli natal Uranus is conjunct the MC. Freedom/Independence... whose?

Saturn is significant in the Israeli Solar Return conjunct the IC and square to Juno conjunct the DEC....

I''m sure this gets really going as Mercury conjuncts Uranus on the 13th of May with the Moon conjunct both of them. Actually, it has already started(Military encounters) however I sense the 12th of May it gets very real as Mercury squares Mars!
