The 8.0 magnitude Sichuan Earthquake (or Wenchuan Earthquake) occurred near Chengdu resulted in 87,587 deaths, 374,643 injuries, and over 10,000 people never found. Approximately $150 billion in damages resulted (= $173 billion in 2018). It was China's deadliest earthquake in 32 years. Aftershocks as strong as magnitude 6 or stronger continued for months.

Rescue efforts were impeded by heavy rains and consequent landslides. (So... just how much Jupiter are we going to see? Ah, it's mostly in the Moon aspects as for floods.) This starts strong, then quickly peters out - unless you consider (as we must) the rain!
