In the Great Train Robbery, thieves stole 2.6 million pounds from a Royal Mail train travelling from Glasgow to London. Most of the gang was captured and convicted.

The train stopped just after 3 AM (at a sabotaged signal). The crime was committed and an alarm finally sounded at 4:20 AM.
