Converting chart data to and from other astrology programs.

Post by Jupiter Sets at Dawn »

In reference to a discussion elsewhere that probably should be held here...

Janus should be able to either read existing SF files, or you would be able to export the data from SF in a format that Janus can import. I'm not sure about the first option, but that's what it says in the information Janus has online.

That's possible with most programs. So don't let having to "re-enter data for hundreds of charts" hold you back from trying out another astrology program.

Most programs can read plain ascii data, or can at least import and export plain ascii (or comma delimited) files. It's a matter of getting the various pieces of information in the right order. You can change the order Solar Fire exports the pieces to match your other program (or tell it the order of the pieces in the files you have) but you can always import plain ascii data into excel or word to change the order.

Once you get it figured out, and most manuals lay it out the order they want, you can automate the exports and imports. It's not difficult to do, just fiddly.

I understand JSAD, and thanks. If Jim ever decides he wants to do a full blown analysis of the PSSI's with his SMA book, it would definitely be worth it for me to acquire for him Janus. But, I knew Jim would need to export hundreds of SMA chart files from SF into Janus format with Janus PSSR/PSSI capability. Jim is the only person I know who is capable with tenacity/patience to do an analysis of this magnitude. :) I have already seen enough proof that for here on out for the rest of my life, I will damn sure be looking at both the a&m PSSR's for future important days for myself, and future sports championships with PSSI's a/m.s.

Hundreds of charts, once the formula was figured out (a matter of minutes) would take Jim a couple of minutes, Steve. This is not a long time consuming process with dozens of steps. It's more of a click, click click, click, click and then go have a nice glass of something while the computer does what it was invented to do. Jim uses Excel all the time. This stuff would be dead simple for him.
I remember trying to help you transfer files from one program to another, and I would never, ever suggest you make another attempt. Just not your thing.
