79 children were kidnapped by armed men from a school in Cameroon last night. Timing is unclear, but the children were asleep and the police and military crisis meeting was held Monday morning, so it was some time after lights-out. I'm going to estimate Sunday, 10 PM for the moment.

The CAPSOLAR is Pluto & Uranus dominated, with Sun-Venus square the Uranus; and, of course, the universal Moon-Mercury-Saturn.

The LIBSOLAR is primarily Pluto, plus the universal Moon-Mercury-Mars.

The CANLUNAR has Mars at MC mundane square Mercury-Jupiter on Dsc.

Pluto transits a Capsolar angle. Saturn conjoins Capsolar Moon (0°37'). The CanQ brings an all-too-accurate presence of a Mars-Saturn square to the angles. Bizarrely, Jupiter transits Cansolar MC but, strikingly true, transiting Mars in its exaltation degree conjoins Cansolar Asc.

Around 10 AM, people in the First National Bank building, the tallest building in downtown Omaha, began smelling a burnt electrical insulation smell. Eight people were transported to hospital and the 17 lowest floors were evacuated. People on the upper floors started feeling ill, so the entire building was evacuated starting about 11 AM, just as it started snowing.
There were workers cleaning out ventilation shafts at the time, and it's believed some of the chemicals they were using caused the fumes.

I must admit to having freaked briefly this morning when I saw breaking news on my phone, with the headline truncated, and saw "Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, age 85, hos..." and thought it was her obituary (which would have been absurd timing in an often absurd universe). Fortunately and graciously it was not.

A reminder that the chart for the national capital does affect the whole nation.

I'd expect massive Mars in California about now. Besides the Thousand Oaks mass shootings, yesterday two huge fires burst into being very quickly and then exploded across large areas. One in Northern California has already exploded to 70,000 acres and destroyed 2,000 homes. Another in Ventura County (north of LA County at the coast) spread past Thousand Oaks to Agoura Hills, then down the canyon pas to Malibu (Malibu was evacuated this morning) and has now reached inland to Griffith Park such that the LA Zoo is being evacuated.

There isn't any particular Mars in the LA (or other affected California) charts. However, transiting Mars is exactly on CapQ Descendant for Washington with IC a day or two from hitting ingress Mars.

California has plenty of Neptune, beginning with the Capsolar. Also in Libsolar, which has that very partile Moon-Mars conjunction worldwide. Liblunar has Saturn on Descendant. CapQ is still clinging to Pluto angularities.

Oh, wait, I found one local Mars: CanQ Ascendant squares transiting Mars. (That's more like it.)

Two major fires in California broke out November 8 and both spread startlingly fast and far. The one in Northern California called the Camp Fire just had its death toll rise to 42, making it the deadliest single fire in California history. UPDATE 11/19: The Camp Fire death toll is now up to 77, with 1,276 missing and over 12,000 buildings destroyed.

The fire broke out near Camp Creek Road in Butte County, California (near Pulga, CA) on November 8, 2018 around 6:33 AM, probably related to downed power lines. UPDATE: Coordinates of where it started are now given as 39N50'51", 121W23'42". This is slightly different from the Pulga coordinates but shouldn't make more than a minute or two difference below.

Forty-seven acres burned, 29 people died, and another 150 people were injured in the deadliest fire in Los Angeles history. It started shortly after 2:00 PM on an October afternoon in the city’s spacious Griffith Park, where thousands of workers were clearing dry brush. When the fire department arrived a few minutes later, at 2:26 PM, these thousands of civilians already were fighting the fire, impeding fire department access. Then, about 3:00 PM, the wind shifted, propelling the fire in a new direction and causing most of the deaths and injuries. (All the deaths were civilians fighting the fire.) By sunset (around 5:30 PM), they had contained the blaze.

Uranus and Pluto set up the event, then Mars finished it.

8 members of the Rhoden family were killed in 4 locations in Ohio.
Four members of the Wagner family (parents and two sons) were arrested today for the murders, and two more (grandmothers) for obstruction of justice. It might have been a child custody case.

News media has become caught up in the story of an American missionary trained at Oral Roberts University, John Allen Chau, who landed on North Sentinel Island in the Bay of Bengal to evangelize the Christian gospel to its natives. On his second attempt to communicate with them, he was slain.

His second visit was on November 17, hour unknown. He was on North Sentinel Island, which is a tiny island centered at 11N33, 92E14. Chau landed on the island illegally: so illegally that the seven people who helped him get there have been arrested by Indian police. (Outside contact with the indigenous tribes is prohibited by law. A dozen years ago outsiders approaching the island were attacked, so none of this should have been a surprise. Sentinelese practice is to attack anyone who sets foot in their island.)

Using November 17, noon, as an estimated time, I'm curious what the universe shows about the event. I'm guessing it will show as the home team successfully stopping a trespasser. (It was a day of an exact Mars-Jupiter conjunction, so there was certainly an extra-zealous note of evangelism in the air; and, most of the daylight hours, Moon conjoined Neptune, so there wasn't necessarily much good judgment going around.)

Because every time they've had contact with outsiders, half the people on the island have died of one or another disease. They have no immunity to diseases we consider minor. The man trying to "convert" them was warned off by their shooting arrows at him previously. He knew they attack outsiders before he went there and knew outside contact means they'll die. He decided what he wanted to do was more important than their lives.

Presuming I have the right Hoover (of two possible), the new Capsolar had Sun on IC (1°24'), Mars on Dsc (1°38'). Arilunar was relationally explosive, with Moon-Sun opposition (22') along meridian with Moon and Venus.

Into this volatile setting, CapQ had ingress Mars on IC. CanQ was also harsh with Saturn rising, Pluto on EP Neptune transiting Cansolar WP. This is ugly stuff.

The British PM and the EU have come to an agreement on the details of Brexit. She still has to sell it to Parliament, which probably means a parallel sell to the British people, but it's a significant step.

I thought it worth reviewing this year's astrological track for London to see if anything is obvious.

YEAR: The Capsolar (in addition to the worldwide Moon-Mercury-Saturn, which has brought limits, economic troubles, and communication barriers, etc.) has Neptune square Ascendant. I bet we can all agree it has been a confusing, worried year with various other Neptune psychological states.

MID-YEAR: I haven't been tracking the back-and-forths of this carefully, but my sense is that the summer was a time when people were more relaxed about it all - There was a royal wedding and other things on people's minds. The Cansolar has Mercury on Zenith (everybody kept talking, negotiating), Venus topped MC, and an unreasonably optimistic Jupiter-Neptune square was widely foreground.

QUARTER: Now the trouble has begun. This is going to be one hell-raising argument. Worldwide the Libsolar has Moon conjunct Mars and square Mercury, all within about half a degree. Additionally, London has Saturn on EP. And, as mentioned, their economy has been taking a beating.

MONTH: If we'd been watching UK closely, as I do USA, we might have picked this month as the time things would start moving. Uranus sets in the Caplunar showing change is afoot. Sun is on EP, showing the PM and her government taking a strong hand in things. Moon-squares Venus so everybody seems fine enough with it so far.

WEEK: The Arilunar is much the same thing, but without the important Sun. Is there some holiday akin to Thanksgiving that England celebrates right now that I don't know about? It seems party time, with Moon-Uranus rising opposite Venus. However, there is also a foreground Saturn-Neptune square. I suspect this Venus-Uranus etc. is speaking of "change in relationships," since the UK is about to change its formal relationships with all of Europe. (This IS a divorce settlement negotiation, after all.)

DAY ETC. + FUTURE: The news of the PM + EU deal broke as London's CapQ brought the Capsolar's Mars-Jupiter conjunction to angles - Mars closer to EP, Jupiter to sq. MC. They fit individually, and they may fit collectively since this is probably an economically stupid, destructive move for the UK. CanQ MC crossed Pluto.

In December, Saturn will transit across London's Capsolar EP, then go on to square it's MC. These will be tough weeks, difficult negotiation, and probably hardship (such as economic or monetary hardship). Earlier in December a transiting Mars-Neptune conjunction forms on London's Cansolar IC, with several critical dates, e.g., Mars moves in orb of the angle November 30, crosses it Dec 3, positions itself at the Neptune/IC midpoint Dec 5, and conjoins Neptune (but outside the 2° orb by then) Dec 7.

Next year's Capsolar comes down hard on England, and does look like a rupture, but with great difficulty, contention, and divisive emotion. Closest to the angle is Uranus, partile conjunct Asc. Also foreground are Moon, Mars, and Saturn, with Moon-Saturn square in mundo (1°47') and Mars-Saturn square ecliptically but widely (3°13'). Oh, almost missed, Sun squares Asc a little widely 2°30', so there is strong government presence and control in the country. This is the first Capsolar to have Sun in orb of conjunct Pluto (which has less than 4° to go in Sagittarius) and it widely squares the rising Uranus. There could easily be a vote of no confidence before this is over.

One would not have expected Houston to have good technology and transportation news this year, since it is right on the Moon-Mercury-Saturn-IC line of the Capsolar; but there y'go.

At least for the day, CapQ IC crosses Jupiter. That's typical of historic successful space ventures.

Cape Canaveral has a spectacular showing: The current Caplunar not only has Jupiter on IC, it has Jupiter and Mars on angles. All of the positive interpretations we give to Mars-Jupiter aspects boil down to "success in Mars things," and this is as literal as that gets! (But the Arilunar has Saturn rising.)

While ingress Jupiter is on CapQ IC for Houston today, transiting Jupiter is on CapQ IC for Cape Canaveral. Neat!

Large quakes in Alaska aren't unusual and often can be ignored, but this one seems to have a stronger local effect, at least a Neptune-style shakeup. AP says roads buckled, food flew off shelves, a few things broke. I now see a tsunami warning issued. We'll see how serious this was within the next few hours, I imagine. I'll come back to work it up when I have the chance.

Large quakes in Alaska aren't unusual and often can be ignored, but this one seems to have a stronger local effect, at least a Neptune-style shakeup. AP says roads buckled, food flew off shelves, a few things broke. I now see a tsunami warning issued. We'll see how serious this was within the next few hours, I imagine. I'll come back to work it up when I have the chance.

There were no casualties, although considerable damage, especially to roads and similar surfaces, and several prominent buildings. It's not a very significant quake, but it's worth investigating.

I find it astrologically amusing that not only does this Moon-Saturn describe an event of this type, but the main thing the news focused on, with that Moon-Mercury, is the disruption of the roads!
