Mercury-Venus Aspects
Mercury-Venus Aspects
Every time I've seen these aspects placed prominently there's a quality in speech much different from what you'd expect in the person. You'd expect a polished, charming, beautiful manner of conveying ideas, but instead I've found that the individual just wants to seem that way, and aren't at all that way in reality. There's a pronounced degree of affectation, they try to give an air of intelligence, an aura of knowing, and this seems to work well in most cases, but under any level scrutiny what they say makes little sense (but they still manage to maintain intellectual vanity). I've never encountered others so capable of saying so much and at once produce so little meaning. I'm sincerely baffled by this, this has been bothering me for a long time, especially since I've always wanted a Mercury-Venus configuration! The 6 young men with this configuration who I know and my sister are all like this and it's really the strangest thing to me. They aren't dishonest, abrasive, or uncouth, they just try to seem more sophisticated than they are and have a bad habit of making confident claims about subject matter foreign to themselves.

I find your language choice really intriguing. You're distinguishing how they are from how they seem. Given the importance of your Moon-Jupiter, this is quite interesting.sotonye wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2019 10:56 am You'd expect a polished, charming, beautiful manner of conveying ideas, but instead I've found that the individual just wants to seem that way, and aren't at all that way in reality.
Mercury-Venus aspects have neither Sun nor Moon involved. They aren't linked to the ego structure or to the ego's adaptive-responsive mechanisms. All the other planets are "tools" of the identity core, not directly part of it. So, Venus aspecting Mercury can modify one's style of communication (for example), but I wouldn't expect it to modify how one is (unless you are identifying how one is in behavior terms only, in which case it is also how it seems).
Or am I misreading you?
There is nothing about this aspect that gives intelligence, but there is a love of Mercury things, of facts and ideas and smart people. I know several people with this aspect that are clearly characterized as geeks in one topic (or many) because they just love trivia and other facts. There's a pronounced degree of affectation, they try to give an air of intelligence, an aura of knowing, and this seems to work well in most cases, but under any level scrutiny what they say makes little sense (but they still manage to maintain intellectual vanity).

I think the bottom-line principle of Mercury-Venus aspects (which bring information needs and affection needs into relationship with each other) is: Social engagement, play; or intellect oppose to feeling.
My standard interpretation is pretty consistent with what you said (without, ahem, the Jupiter-type judgments): "Gracious expression, charmer, persuasive, maybe even a “sweet talker.” Light-hearted, pleasant. Delights in learning (learns easily). Probably a happy childhood; retains a playful, childlike sense, a charm of immaturity."

You're good Mr. E lol, I didn't notice that I was falling into Moon-Jup tendencies here and now I'm trying not to be embarrassed about it! (I think this is what you mean by intriguing, seeing an aspect play itself out)Jim Eshelman wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2019 11:21 am I find your language choice really intriguing. No this explains it all perfectly and answers another suspicion I had, that the planets are avenues for the expression of the entire chart. Thank you, everything makes sense when understood this way, and I'm reminded about you saying that, for example, conjunctions to the Sun by Saturn give the individual the feeling of being the aspecting planet! It slipped my mind that the Sun and Moon are more central to who we are than anything else. And I conflated behavior with being here and I'm not sure whyMercury-Venus aspects have neither Sun nor Moon involved. I can definitely see this hmm yes, every person I know with the aspect is like that in one way or another, it's as if they treat ideas like vintage wine or expensive art piecesThere is nothing about this aspect that gives intelligence, but there is a love of Mercury things, of facts and ideas and smart people. Yes I think the interpretation is consistent, and sorry about that lol I did not realize how jupiterian I was being, I'm sort of shocked by thisI think the bottom-line principle of Mercury-Venus aspects (which bring information needs and affection needs into relationship with each other) is: Social engagement, play; or intellect oppose to feeling.
