Officer killed in Omaha

At 12:58 PM CDT, 3159 Vane St, Omaha, NE, 41.322727, -95.959897, a known gang member being served with an arrest warrant for a previous shooting opened fire at one of the officers attempting to serve the warrant. Although both the officer and the suspect were on their way to the hospital before 1:02 PM, neither could be resuscitated. Announcement of the deaths was made at 5:15 PM at City Hall.

Additional information: The suspect, 26 year old Marcus Wheeler was being served with a warrant from the shooting of a man dropping off his four year old daughter at his mother's house on September 5th.

The officer, 29 year old Kerry Orozco, a member of the fugitive task force, who coached baseball for the Boys and Girls club, volunteered with Girl Scouts, Special Olympics, and fostered dogs for a rescue group, step-mother of two, was just back from maternity leave, having given birth Feb 17th. Her daughter was due to be released from intensive care tomorrow.
