Black Cat Tavern protest

In honor of LA's Pride weekend, here is the story of the critical civil protest in the gay community two and a half years before Stonewall. Here is a recent article giving some of the history from a person who organized the protest:

The aggravating event was a police raid at the Black Cat Tavern at the stroke of midnight ending December 31, 1966. The Black Cat is 34N05'32" 118W16'47". Over a dozen people were arrested (for kissing at midnight!). Some of them were charged with lewd conduct and forced to register as sex offenders.

A protest was organized in the aftermath, and occurred February 11, 1967. (The story is in the article above, among other places.) It was met by several squads of police officers. I don't have a time for it except that it was in the evening, I'm going to guess 8 PM.
