STUDY: USA chart & quotidians

Post by Jim Eshelman »

Another post on the forum today got me interested in the question of minutely fine-tuning the best-performing U.S. natal chart to date using quotidians. As I type this, I haven't any clue how this will work out, since I'm not nearly as impressed with quotidians as I once was. But it's worth a check!

The July 4, 1776 Philadelphia chart is for 12:14:42 PM. It was the final rectification effort by Llewellyn George, and adopted without change by Donald Bradley. Kenneth Bowser, using other techniques, has suggested a time about a minute later. Does the SNQ suggest any refinement is needed on LG's final determination?

I'll run through all the events in SMA that seem big events for the United States per se, using as location wherever the U.S. capital was at the time (usually
Washington) and, where appropriate, relocated to the site of an event.

I've long known that some categories of event don't show in a national chart as such - it especially shows things arising out of the culture of the people and the direct actions by (or upon) the government. Therefore, I'm not sure how well natural disasters will show (though I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised).

Earthquakes

Post by Jim Eshelman »

1906 San Francisco earthquake
For Wash: p. Moon 0°44' from p. Asc (doesn't overly impress me)
For SF: p. Asc conj. r. Saturn +1°32' [acceptable but wider than ideal]

1971 Sylmar quake
For Wash: p. MC -90- t Neptune 0°19'
Not a good chart when checked for Sylmar (p. Jupiter on MC 07')

1994 Northridge quake
Nothing exact and interesting enough for DC.
For Northridge: p. Asc conj. p. Mars +0°11', p. MC op. t. Uranus -0°14' & t. Mars 1°03' (Mars-Uranus conj. partile). Bingo!

Hurricanes

Post by Jim Eshelman »

GALVESTON HURRICANE
Nothing angular for DC. Galveston is not an appropriate chart, with natal Venus on IC and natal Jupiter square Ascendant. (Rain be damned, I want something destructive for the worst hurricane ever to hit U.S. shores.)

LABOR DAY HURRICANE
Shock and surprise are shown, but no usual indicators. A progressed Mercury-Uranus opposition was 0°21' wide and within orb of SNQ horizon, natal Uranus was even closer to Ascendant. Ah, but p. MC sq. t. Mars -0°34' (there ya go!). Overall, not bad.

HURRICANE CAMILLE
Another Uranus: p. Asc sq. t. Uranus -0°26', and p. MC sq. p. Uranus -0°38'. Transiting Mars opposed natal Uranus 0°04', and they were on SNQ EP/WP.

HURRICANE ANDREW
p. Asc on r. Mercury -0°10'
NB: Unrelated to the current project, I note that this occurred with a tight progressed Moon-Mars-Jupiter configuration, showing the violence of storm:
p. Moon 25°14' Sag
p. Jupiter 25°17' Gem
p. Mars 25°56' Vir
Additionally, t. Pluto sq. p. Sun 0°10'.

HURRICANE KATRINA
For Wash: p. MC -90- r. Pluto (-0°10')
For New Orleans, the chart is minor and insufficiently precise, e.g., r. Sun sq. MC, r. Mercury on Asc, and a confusing pile-up of p. Venus partile op. r. Saturn, but both then transited by Jupiter, and the Venus coming to MC. I'm not going to stake anything on that one. and the DC one is quite sufficient for a single-day showing.

"SUPERSTORM" SANDY
p. Asc -180- t. Uranus (-0°12') [but p. EP as much on the other side]
t. Pluto in the vicinity of the angles (< 2° from p. IC)
As an aside, p. Moon-Mars conj. 0°34'

Fires

Post by Jim Eshelman »

GREAT CHICAGO FIRE
p. MC -90- t. Neptune (-0°18')
NB - Also p. Sun -0- r. Saturn +26'

For Chicago:
p. Asc -0- t. Neptune +0°05'
p. Asc -190- p. Saturn -1°28'
p. MC -180- r. Sun -1°47' [Also t. Sun on SNQ WP partile]

APOLLO 1 FIRE
Nothing close enough.

Bombs

Post by Jim Eshelman »

1993 WORLD TRADE CENTER BOMB
p. Asc -90- r. Neptune -0°08', -180- r. Mars +1°03', -90- t. Mercury +1°13'; t. Mercury -90- r. Mars 0°10'
[The bomb was even in a vehicle!]
p. MC -180- t. Venus -1°06', -90- r. Sun -0°14'
NB - As an aside, p. Moon -180- r. Mercury -25'

OKLAHOMA CITY BOMBING
p. Asc -0- p. Sun -0°20'
p. MC -180- p. Uranus -0°28'
-- Average Sun-Uranus (implicit square) 0°08'

For Oklahoma City:
p. Asc -0- r. Uranus -1°00', -0- r. Pluto -1°14', -90- t. Sun +0°20'
-- t. Uranus -0- r. Pluto 0°14' (Yowsa!)

BOSTON MARATHON BOMB
p. MC -180- r. Mars -1°08'
NB - p. Moon -180- p. Venus 0°37', but they are both then transited by Mars, with t. Mars -180- p. Moon 0°14'. Here the Moon-Venus probably refers to the popular, celebratory public athletic event setting. p. Sun was within 1° of -90- Uranus at the time, 19' from the p./r. Uranus midpoint.

For Boston:
Same symbolism, different angle: p. Asc -90- r. Mars +0°09', which also brings p. M -90- r. Neptune -0°49'.

Vehicular Catastrophes

Post by Jim Eshelman »

U.S.S. THRESHER SANK
p. Asc -180- r. Venus +0°21'
p. EP -0- p. Mercury
p. MC is distantly square r. Pluto, I think it not appropriate unless we are looking at an effect from a day or so later.
NB - As an aside, p. Moon -180- p. Mars 0°29'

U.S.S. SCORPION SANK
p Asc -0- p. Venus -0°35' (p. Moon-Venus conj 0°56'), -90- t. Sun +39') [Sun does not square the Moon-Venus]
Quite inappropriate.

SHUTTLE CHALLENGER EXPLOSION
p. Asc -0- t. Mars -1°38', -90- r. Moon -1°28'
-- t. Mars -90- r. Moon 0°10'
p. MC -90- t. Saturn -0°42'
p. WP its r./p. Uranuses from about their midpoint
NB - As an aside, p. Moon -90- r. Mercury 08', and there's Mercury symbolism all over the event.

EXXON VALDEZ OIL SPILL
Angles dance around a variety of things, including being 2° past both transiting and progressed Saturns. The only clean hit is r. Sun on Dsc. It does not show as a decisive event right when it hit, and I don't remember how much after the public reaction hit.
NB - p. Moon -90- p. Mercury 18', again for a vehicular event.

SHUTTLE COLUMBIA DISASTER
p. Asc -180- r. Uranus +0°20', and near t. Mars op. p. Uranus (11')
p. MC -0- p. Neptune -0°20'
Notice that Asc to Uranus and MC to Neptune average 0°00' orb!
NB - Add t. Pluto -180- p. Moon 10'.

THREE MILE ISLAND NUCLEAR EVENT
p. Asc -180- r. Venus -0°01' [Quite precise and quite wrong, though it is 16' from trine progressed Saturn.]
p. MC -90- p. Pluto +0°35'
p. EP drags in t. Jupiter.

Deaths of Leaders

Post by Jim Eshelman »

This should be one of the most interesting sets, because they are precisely timed, they very directly tie into the U.S. chart as such, and there are quite a few of them.

DEATH OF WILLIAM HENRY HARRISON
p. Asc -180- t. Uranus, -0°29', -180- t. Mercury -0°16', -0- t. Moon +0°05', -90- r. Mars +0°57'; t. Mercury-Uranus -90- r. Mars
p. MC -180- t. Jupiter -0°02'
p. EP -0- p. Sun < 2°
Overall, I would call this appropriate but imperfect.
NB - p. Moon -90- r. Saturn 21', t. Sun -90- r. Sun 15'

DEATH OF ZACHARY TAYLOR
p. EP -180- r. Venus & p. MC -0- p. Venus [unfitting]
NB - Also p. Moon -120- r. Jupiter 11'

MURDER OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN
p. MC -90- p. Saturn -1°04' [p. Venus-Saturn conj. 21', but Venus not angular]
p. EP within orb of t. Sun (partile) and t. Saturn (they average the EP longitude); and t. Saturn is 06' from sq. p. Pluto
NB - p. Sun -120- r. Uranus 05', t. Venus -90- r. Moon 14'

MURDER OF JAMES GARFIELD
For the shooting...
p. Asc -180- r. Jupiter -0°44'
p. MC -90- r. Pluto +0°28'
-- orbs average -0°08'
p. EP op. p. Jupiter on r. Mercury, which is -90- the Sun-Saturn (see orb breakdown two months later below)
NB - Also, p. Moon -90- r. Neptune 11', -180- r. Mars 60'. p. Sun-Saturn conj. 38'.

For the death... look at the exact aspects!
2°25' Aries p. Asc
2°40' Cancer r. Mercury
2°40' Cancer p. Jupiter
2°40' Libra p. Saturn
3°30' Libra p. Sun
4°23' Capricorn p. Pluto

p. MC -180- r. Sun +0°20'

MURDER OF WILLIAM McKINLEY
For the shooting...
p. Asc -180- t. Mars +0°38'
NB Also p. Moon -0- p. Neptune 20'

For the death...
p. MC -0- p. Pluto -0°26', r. Pluto -1°48', -180- p. Jupiter +0°33', r. Mercury +1°28'; -90- p. Saturn 0°; Jupiter barely in orb of r. Mercury & p. Pluto
p. Asc -180- p. Sun -1°37'
NB Also p. Moon-Neptune conj. 06'.

Notice how the shooting vs. the death are differentiated by distinctly appropriate angularities in each case.

DEATH OF WARREN G. HARDING
p. Asc -180- t. Saturn -0°41', -90- r. Sun -0°44'; t. Saturn -90- r. Sun 0°03'
p. MC -0- p. Venus +1°44', -180- r. Jupiter +0°56'

For San Francisco...
p. MC -90- r. Moon +0°10'
p. EP -180- r. Mercury

DEATH OF FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT
p. Asc -180- r. Mars -1°39'
[Not all that great, for such a significant event.]

MURDER OF JOHN F. KENNEDY
p. Asc -0- t. Pluto +0°24'
p. MC -0- r. Uranus +0°16', p. Uranus < 2°

For Dallas...
p. Asc -180- r. Moon +0°04'
p. EP -180- t. Saturn +0°33'

RESIGNATION OF RICHARD NIXON
p. Asc -90- p. Neptune -1°22'
p. MC -90- t. Neptune -0°43'
p. EP -0- r. Uranus
NB - p. Moon -120- p. Sun 0°03'

SHOOTING OF RONALD REAGAN
p. MC -0- p. Saturn +0°44', -90- p. Sun 2°00'
p. EP -0- p. Pluto
NB - Also t. Uranus -90- p. Moon 36'

MURDER OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
p. Asc -180- r. Venus +0°31'
p. MC -90- r. Pluto -1°32'
p. EP -0- p. Sun < 1°
NB - Also p. Moon-Venus conj. 46'.

For Memphis...
p. Asc -90- t. Uranus +0°16', p. Mercury +0°07' (Mercury-Uranus op. 0°08')
p. MC -0- p. Mars +0°50', -90- r. Sun -1°03' , -180- t. Sun -0°31', t. Saturn -0°35' (Sun-Saturn conj. 0°04')
NB - Also p. Moon-Venus conj. 46'.

MURDER OF ROBERT F. KENNEDY
p. Asc -180- t. Uranus -1°27', r. Neptune -1°28'; t. Uranus conj. r. Neptune 0°01'
p. MC -90- t. Moon +0°56'

For Los Angeles...
p. Asc -0- r. Pluto -1°00'

War & Peace

Post by Jim Eshelman »

This is another category that should speak directly to the national chart.

START OF CIVIL WAR (Secession of South Carolina
p. Asc -0- r. Sun +0°07', -90- r. Saturn 0°33'
p. MC -0- t. Neptune -1°23', -180- r. Neptune +1°40', -180- p. Neptune -0°57'
NB - Also t. Sun -90- p. Moon 26'. t. Venus -90- r. Moon 20'.

U.S. ENTERS WW I
p. Asc -90- t. Uranus +1°15'

1918 ARMISTICE & CEASE FIRE
p. Asc -180- r. Pluto +0°20', -90- p. Saturn 0°47'
p. M -90- r. Sun +0°12', t. Jupiter -0°23'; t. Jupiter -0- r. Sun 0°35'
(Despite the harshness, an unequivocal sign of victory also shows. BTW that Jupiter is also 08' from our natal MC for DC.)
NB - Also p. Moon-Mercury op. 26', which seems to be the treaty itself, especially since t. Venus op. p. Moon47', conj. p. Mercury 21': a peace treaty. t. Mercury conj. r. Sun 07'.

PEARL HARBOR
p. Asc -90- p. Uranus -1°32'
NB - Also p. Moon -120- r. Sun 48', t. Sun -90- p. Moon 46'

For Hawaii...
p. Asc -0- r. Mars -0°44'
[/ <C -90- p. Uranus +0°08', r. Uranus -0°31'

VICTORY IN EUROPE
p. Asc -180- r. Sun < 1°
p. MC -90- t. Pluto < 1°
p. EP -0- p. Venus < 1°
NB - Also p. Moon-Saturn op. 23', which is strange.

HIROSHIMA
p. MC -90- p. Saturn -0°54'

VICTORY IN THE PACIFIC
p. Asc -0- r. Mars -1°00'
(It seems strange to show the end of war with Mars - I'd call this a miss - especially because this end of war did not have the vindictive punishment of the end of WW I.)

FALL OF SAIGON
p. Asc -90- r. Sun +0°42'
NB - Also, p. Moon-Uranus conj. 07'; t. Neptune opposes this Moon-Uranus partile.

2001 AFGHANISTAN WAR
p. Asc -90- p. Uranus -0°56'
p. EP -180- p. Sun < 2°

2003 IRAQ WAR
p. EP -0- t. Neptune [Not really appropriate.]
NB - Also, p. Moon -120- p. Mars 37', t. Uranus -0- p. Sun 49'.

Conclusions

Post by Jim Eshelman »

For the most part, these are strikingly good! A small percentage are not, and that's to be expected.

They were far better than I expected, in fact.

As for which way the time seems to tip... at first, it seemed to suggest that the time should be slightly later; then a long wave of events appeared (especially the presidential deaths) which showed the opposite, that, if anything, it should be slightly earlier. I haven't worked out all the averages - anyone here is, of course, welcome to do so - but the general impression is that there are roughly as many events tipping things slightly earlier as slightly later and, overall, the time is likely very close or dead-on.
