Solar Fire 2-wheel, Return outside &c.

Post by Jim Eshelman »

Solar Fire does not come with a native capability to do the type of wheel Siderealists want for return charts - where the cusps are the return chart, the outer wheel is the return chart, and the inner wheel is the natal planets.

You can do this by creating a new custom wheel design, but that may not be easy for everyone.

Here is the link to download such a wheel design. Put it in the Userdata folder of your Solar Fire program folder. It will then show as BiReturn in your wheel selections.

Other than the early siderealists using the return chart with its angular degrees for the bi-wheel for the outside wheel as a standard, is there any other advantages for this standard verses doing a bi-wheel with the natal as the outside wheel and return chart as the inside wheel showing angular degrees of the return chart?
Yes. It's the entire interpretive model, called the "Inside-Outside Theory." Transits are seen as coming from "outside" and natal factors as arising from "inside."

For example, transiting Mars means you get hit. (Mars coming from the outside.) Natal Mars means you hit something. (Mars coming from the inside.)

Natal vs. transiting Saturn and Jupiter are almost the opposite in terms of money. Transiting Saturn means the world puts demands on you and takes from you; natal Saturn means you put demands on everyone else and take from them. Transiting Jupiter means the universe is generous to you; natal Jupiter means you're generous to the universe. Therefore, "money coming in" is an expression of transiting Jupiter or natal Saturn; "money going out" is an expression of natal Jupiter or transiting Saturn.

The challenge in each type of chart presentation is to determine which of two charts is the more inside (and which the more outside) in a particular combination of types of charts.

For solar and lunar returns, it's an easy call: Natals on the inside. Use the shaping to wire your brain to see things in right relation to each other.
