The MOVE bombing

MOVE was a black liberation / black power group founded in Philadelphia in 1972. Their anarcho-primitive philosophy centers on the premise that humanity's shift from hunter-gatherer to a Neolithic agricultural, settled culture was a mistake and everything that has arisen since that time needs to be undone to "rewild" the species.

The present event occurred when, following an armed confrontation and stand-off, a Philadelphia police helicopter dropped a bomb on the row of houses MOVE occupied. (The city had just designated them a terrorist organization.) Eleven people died (including five children), 65 neighborhood houses were destroyed by the fire started by the bombing, and the survivors successfully sued the city, winning a small $1.5 million settlement in 1996.

The New York Times article says he bomb was dropped "this evening" following a 90-minute morning shootout. The fire was under control by 11:40 PM, so probably was started several hours earlier. Sunset was 8"07 PM and "evening" doesn't necessarily mean it's dark - bombing would have been easier in daylight. UPDATE: The Guardian says the police copter took off at 5:27 PM to drop the bomb, so it was just a few minutes after that. - O think Wikipedia is confirming that the West Philadelphia location was
39N57'20'' 75W14'49''.The bombing occurred roughoy as a Mercury-Pluto opposition stretched across the local horizon.
