1905 Kangra Earthquake

Post by Jim Eshelman »

April 4, 1905, 0:50 UT, Kangra Valley, India
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1905_Kangra_earthquake

Magnitude 7.8. Over 20,000 people killed. Time is given as "early morning" where it occurred and 0:50 UT on April 4 (which is 6:11 AM India, almost exactly sunrise). I'll use the town of Kangra (32N06, 76E16) for the location. (Most buildings in Kangra and two other nearby towns were destroyed.)

These are really outstanding charts and this is an important, very high casualty quake not studied before.
