Pluto in Aquarius

Post by Jim Eshelman »

There is a lot of interest, suddenly, in the 2040s which begin with Pluto entering Aquarius. I've forecast a rough two decades getting there, as Pluto moves through Capricorn, and suggested I'd like to live to see what's on the other side (but don't necessarily expect that I will).

So I've decided to work, as time permits, on a Pluto in Aquarius review and forecast. I'm not sure that we'll be able to realistically understand what it shows that far in the future - with enormous planetary, tech, political, and social shifts between now and then - but it doesn't hurt to gather notes. (I may not rush on this. I'll get back to it here and there as time and inspiration permit.) -- First, a list of when Pluto has been in Aquarius in the past.

Emperor Nero ordered the murder of his mother. She survives. He has her executed to appear as suicide. After Seneca is disgraced, Nero is free to become a full, abusive megalomaniac. Soon starts persecuting / killing those he distrusts (sounds very Hitlerish). Eventually commits suicide when abandoned by the Praetorian Guard while traveling.
Pompeii riots during a gladiator fight. Thousands are killed.
Petronius' Satyricon pokes fun at Roman immorality.
St. Paul mission is occurring. He famously pleaded his Christianity's case (almost to the point of persuasion) before King Agrippa (of the Herod line). Writes his epistles. Heads for Rome.
Christian persecutions in Rome (probable crucifixion of St. Peter).
The Roman Empire is in a new outreach and conquer phase under Herod, especially in Britain and Persia - not sure how this compares to prior decades. Over the course of Pluto in Aquarius, Britain and Gallic Europe are progressively conquered. [Insight: In the 2040s we can expect space exploration to be at a new frontier and push deep into it.]
Joseph of Arimathea goes to Glastonbury on the first Christian mission to Britain. Mark (disciple of Peter) founds the first Christian community in Africa. First official reference to Buddhism in China. Christian martyring in Armenia.
Rome burns - the Great Fire of Rome famous in the tale of Nero's fiddling. The next year, an epidemic afflicts Rome.
Nero proposes a new urban planning approach (ornate buildings, widened streets, use of open spaces). [I expect significantly revised urban remodeling in the 2040s based on similar principles.]
Jewish Revolt: Zealots siege Jerusalem and destroy the Roman garrison. A splinter group captures Masada. Tens of thousands of new forces from Rome (plus regional allies) retaliate, retaking Galilee and other areas but is deflected from Jerusalem and his troops ambushed (thousands killed) causing the commander to flee the country. More troops are sent. Brutal civil war splits Jerusalem. (Numerous historic battles in this whole campaign.) Siege of Jerusalem climaxes in destruction of the temple and the abolition of the Jewish high priesthood. (This entire Fall of Jerusalem occurred during this Pluto in Aquarius period.) Temple treasured are carried off to Rome and soon housed for public showing in a new "Temple of Peace."
The Gospel of Mark was written (and, after Paul's death, Pauline tradition epistles continue). The Dead Sea scrolls were hidden in Qumran.
Following an unstable period in Rome (four emperors in one year post-Nero), adverse weather delays grain shipments from Africa and Egypt causing food shortages.
First Jewish-Roman War succeeds the fall of Jerusalem: Roman forces lay siege to many sites including Masada (their last outpost, which falls; nearly a thousand Zealots commit mass suicide).
Construction of Colosseum in Rome.
Mount Vesuvius erupts, destroying Pompeii and three other cities.
The Gospel of Luke and Acts of the Apostles are written.

[Theme: Based on what happened to Christianity (and even Buddhism), the pattern seems to be that something that was local or parochial expanded in the specific sense of reaching toward universalism, i.e., spreading far outside its original venue.]
