Capitol Riots & the U.S. Horoscope

Post by Jim Eshelman »

I've examined the Capitol Riots from the perspective of the Sidereal ingresses - which seem our vey best tools for mundane astrology. However, I'd now like to examine them from the perspective of the U.S. natal chart. I've used national charts less and less as the ingresses have emerged so powerfully, but this should be an outstanding opportunity to examine them anew.

The Capitol Riots occurred January 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol Building (38N53'24", 77W00'34") in Washington, DC. They were the worst direct assault on the nation's capital since 1814 when the British invaded and burned much of Washington (including direct attack of the Capitol). The best time for this is 12:51 PM when a gathered (thus far mostly peaceful) large crowd rushed the protective fences, breaking through two minutes later. At 12:51 PM, Pluto was 0°28' past MC, Mars was 0°13' past EP, and Uranus 2°53' above Asc in mundane square to Pluto. Also, Moon was mundanely opposite the exactly angular Mars 0°42', even though they were almost 9° apart in longitude. Therefore, it makes an unusually good event chart.

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_stor ... a%22_rally

The U.S. natal chart that has performed best is for July 4, 1776, 12:14:42 PM LMT, Philadelphia, PA (specifically 39N56'56", 74W09'00").

TRANSITS
Almost nothing. Intriguingly, transiting Sun opposed natal Sun 0°05', which means we'll have to examine the Demi-Solar that occurred a few hours earlier (despite my lack of enthusiasm for Demi-SSRs). This also means Sun square natal Asc 0°19'. Also t Mercury op. r Mercury 0°35'. But, really, this is nothing!

SECONDARY PROGRESSIONS
U.S. secondary progressions have been in flux lately. There are some long-term aspects (around for years-to-decades) and others about to leave. Here were the progressions for this event:

Progressed-to-progressed:
p Sun tr. p Jupiter 0°48' sep. [p Sun is in perpetual conj. with p Local MC]
-- p Sun oct. p Venus 0°14' sep.
p Asc op. p Eris 0°29' ap.
p Moon conj. p Pluto 0°20' sep.

Progressed-to-natal:
p Jupiter conj. r MC 0°24' sep.
p Saturn tr. r Venus 0°05' ap.
p Mars conj. r EP 0°20' ap.
p Mercury tr. r Mars 0°20' ap.

Most of these aspects are mixed (and, remember most of them are in orb for years or decades.) The seemingly important progressed Mars conjunct natal EP is worth noting, but Mars progressions to U.S. angles, Sun, or Saturn have been almost non-stop since the 1970s.

Of greater interest is the swifter Mercury-Mars progression; but the one, clear, great indication is the progressed Moon-Pluto conjunction, exactly on theme and marking a narrower period of time.

Within this, perhaps the most fascinating thing involves transits to progressed luminaries. Transiting Neptune conjoins progressed Sun 0°50' and semi-squares progressed Moon 0°24', with transiting Saturn conjunct progressed Moon 0°55'.

SOLAR ARC DIRECTIONS
d Jupiter sq. r Uranus 0°08'
d Moon sq. r Pluto 0°28' ap.
d Jupiter oct. r Mercury 0°31' ap.

The Jupiter aspects make this hard to call a correct or "win," nut with the exact Moon-Pluto it's hard to call it a fail. Perhaps Jupiter-Mercury-Uranus is the influx of the new administration with its different (Jupiter-Uranus style) values and Moon-Pluto is the uprising - but it's not the most tightly timed. I'm leery of these solar arcs.

TERTIARY PROGRESSIONS

Progressed to Progressed
The main thing is a p Mars-Pluto sextile 0°10' - weak but exact - which Tert move exactly set off (Moon opposite Mars, Moon trine Pluto - plus Moon conjunct Neptune 25'). Tert Moon doesn't get a lot of attention because it moves about 1°/day (the same speed as transiting Sun, roughly), but it does snap in place the one interesting aspect. Here are the numbers - just remember that this is a very flitting pattern, not the same impact as a secondary Moon:

20°05' Vir - p Neptune
20°30' Vir - p Moon
21°10' Cap - p Pluto
21°20' Pis - p Mars

Progressed to Natal
What's much more interesting to me is that U.S. Asc is 21°55' Virgo, Sun 21°31' Gemini - which makes this Mars progression an exact assault on the heart of the U.S. government, a quite exact description of the event! So far, the terts are the very best chart in the set. Though very long-term, tertiary Uranus at 23°35' Gemini is sitting within 0°25' of U.S. natal MC, 0°24' from square natal Saturn: I wonder how long that one's in orb?

I pause to note: Tertiary Mars' exact opposition to natal Saturn and square to natal MC and tert Uranus occurs in March-April.

There were no transits to terts.

SIDEREAL SOLAR RETURN
The U.S. SSR for July 8, 2020 is almost an exact replica of the chart for the start of the riots - the MC being the exact same degree!

Highlights: Transiting Uranus 0°50' from Asc in mundane square to a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction at MC. Normally this "overthrowing the government" symbolism in an election year would just mean that the incumbent loses - which, of course, was true. In this case, the symbolism more literally showed an insurgence against the seat of the government.

I leave other subtleties for you to sort out. There are little jewels to find.

In terms of transits to the SSR, the largest is that t Pluto was closer to MC (0°47'). The most exact timing is that t Mars - just as in the event chart - conjoined SSR EP (0°23') square SSR Saturn (0°20'). The SSR is great!!

SIDEREAL DEMI-SOLAR RETURN
I'm rarely impressed with Demi-Solars. However, this one occurred a few hours before the event, so we should examine it. It occurred January 6, 10:38:31 AM, 20 minutes before the first Proud Boys contingent left the rally to begin marching toward the Capitol.

It's pretty good! (Not as good as the SSR, but good.) Neptune is 0°15' from Asc for general madness and confusion. There is a mundane Moon-Mars opposition, just as in the event chart (0°39'). Natal Mars is minutes from IC (thus in mundane square to the Neptune). DSSR Moon conjoined natal Saturn (1°37').

This is a good chart. It speaks well for this U.S. birth chart and its responsiveness to return charts. BTW, it is not necessarily a persuasive chart for Demi-Solars because this 180° solar return chart is also the Decillium, which would have been effective as a main chart for 10 days.

ENNEAD
Since the Decuillium (Demi-Enny) came up, we might as well check the Ennead. This occurred December 17 and is really good!

4°38' Cap - t Jupiter
5°03' Cap - t Saturn
5°56' Cap - r Pluto
6°36' Can - Asc

23°11' Vir - r Saturn
23°23' Pis - MC
26°49' Pis - t Mars

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN
This is basically right, though. Occurring December 19, it had Uranus 1°13' from Descendant as the one clearly angular planet - surprise and revolution.

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN
I started to write that this January 2 chart was boring. Rather, it's complicated (e.g., juggling the relative angularities of natal Venus vs. Mars from Asc - I haven't worked the numbers in detail, and there are some opposing dynamics that are interesting). But, as with the SLR, the one, clear, decisive voice is Uranus, this time from Natal Uranus exactly on EP.

THE QUOTIDIANS
The SNQ has nothing close enough to the angles (transiting Neptune's conjunction with p Sun being over 2° away), but does get credit for the partile p Moon-Pluto conjunction already cited above under Secondary Progressions.

The SQ was a direct hit! SSR MC had rotated exactly 180° since the SSR so that its MC was opposite (1) the SSR MC and (2) the event chart MC. This means that transiting Mars, which was exactly on SSR and event charts EP, is exactly on SQ WP (and, as before, square SSR Saturn).

Less dramatically but on theme, PSSR MC squares U.S. natal Uranus.

In contrast, I'll test the same event against the "Boyd Chart," a proposed U.S. chart for declaration of war on England, timed to July 6, 1775, 11 AM, Philadelphia, PA.

TRANSITS
Transiting Mars squared natal Pluto (0°45'), which is easily the right idea. The only other transit tiny and not the right idea, it's t Mercury oct. r Jupiter 0°55'. Overall, not much of a build-up but the biggest aspect is OK.

SECONDARY PROGRESSIONS
Progressed MC squared progressed Uranus 0°26'. That's very much the right idea. We also get a progressed Mars-Neptune opposition 0°32'. The rest of the progressed-to-progressed aspects are indifferent or misleading, especially the progressed Mercury-Jupiter square.

There are numerous progressed-to-natal aspects that have been partile for years or decades and so can't be taken as directly applying to this event (or even this current wave or movement) - e.g., progressed Pluto trine natal Mars 0°26'. These aside, the only relevant recent aspect is quite wrong, p Venus trine r Jupiter 0°26'. (There are no transits to progressed luminaries.)

SOLAR ARC DIRECTIONS
One solar arc occurs that is exactly right and very impressive: d Pluto conj. r Asc 0°08'. Others are indifferent, so this is a good showing. (I'm surprised at the precision of the angles - almost skeptical - because the rectified 11 AM time was only thought to be approximately accurate (Firebrace rectified it using return charts and originally merely said that 11 AM was better than 10 AM.) This aspect might be a coincidence, therefore; we'll have a better idea of whether the precision is justified from the Quotidians below.

TERTIARY PROGRESIONS
Progressed to progressed are mixed. Sun square Neptune (20') fits the event, Moon square Jupiter (44') does not. The only progressed-to-natal aspect of Mercury square natal Neptune. I'm not impressed.

SIDEREAL SOLAR RETURN
As with the Declaration of Independence chart discussed above, this chart has an excellent SSR. (Not as good - but good.) The main point is Saturn 1°00' above Descendant with a foreground Jupiter-Pluto conjunction mundane square Mars. This is with Saturn 0°20' from conjunct natal Pluto. You can find a couple of other interesting details if you dig.

There are no interesting transits to the SSR.

SIDEREAL LUNAR RETURN
An SLR occurred a few hours after the riots, at 6:17 PM. Normally, this would be considered in operation already, It has various interesting features, but is hardly decisive.

But the prior SLR for December 10 is terrible with natal Venus and Jupiter closely angular (abnd some transiting Mercury) as its only loud features; so perhaps the complicated in-coming SLR is the better chart. I leave it for you to dig through on your own.

SIDEREAL DEMI-LUNAR RETURN
The Demi-SLR was stunningly good, though:

28°27' Gem - Asc
28°27' Pis - Eris
28°54' Sag - Pluto
29°02' Pis - Mars
29°17' Pis - Moon

ENNEAD
Poor. Venus on IC opposite natal Uranus on MC, all benefic. (This was December 18.)

QUOTIDIANS
The SNQ, SQ, and PSSR all give us nothing at all.

Both of these charts show this important event, but the Declaration of Independence chart REALLY shows it - almost every chart, every technique, with precise, coordinated hits of the right planets.

By comparison, the Boyd chart is disappointing.
