Oct 2: Gandhi, Hone, Parsons, Ripa

Post by Jim Eshelman »

Gandhi, Mohandas. October 2, 1869, 7:08:11 AM LMT, Porbandar, India (B).
Hone, Margaret. October 2, 1892, 2:13 AM GMT, Studley, England (A).
Parsons, Jack. October 2, 1914, 8:45 PM PST, Los Angeles, CA (AA).
Ripa, Kelly. October 2,1970, 5:23 AM EDT, Stratford, NJ (A).

Gandhi's chart is commonly listed as C data; however, the only ambiguity is in correctly translating the Indian time system to one useful to us. Fagan and Raman both give Gandhi's birth time as "three Ghatis and 12 Palas after sunrise," based on Yeshawant K. Pradhan in "Voice of India," 2/24. However, different astrologers have converted this to numerous times over the spam of an hour. A few years back, I walked through the tedious calculations with a modern ghati-to-hour conversion tool and converted this to 7:08:11 AM LMT, which agrees within 1 second with the time Fagan calculated. (Visible sunrise was 5:51:23 AM.) Wemyss' "one hour, 16 minutes 48 seconds after sunrise" and Notable Nativities agrees within a minute. The rest (ignoring people's various rectifications) seem just to be math errors (though I'm surprised Raman, of all people, differed so much.)

BONUS CHARTS:
Foch, Ferdinand. October 2, 1851, 10:00 PM LMT, Tarbes, France (AA).
Marx, Groucho. October 2, 1890, 8:35 AM EST, New York, NY (A).
Luce, Gay Gaer. October 2, 1930, 9:36 AM PST, Oakland, CA (AA).
Darwish, Tiffany. October 2, 1971, 7:16 AM PDT, Norwalk, CA (AA).

Jack Parsons, in addition to many other interesting features in his chart, has the exaltation degree of Mars on Midheaven - quite an interesting placement.

BTW, you might want to compare Jack's chart to mine. (Not as in synastry, but for similarities.) I knew both of his ex-wives fairly well and both of them (independently: they hadn't talked to each other in decades, if ever) thought I was Jack's reincarnation, or at least I reminded them terribly of him. (BTW, I'm not Jack Parsons' reincarnation.) This alerted me, long before I had his birth chart, that we surely had significant chart overlaps that would produce a similar character that they both picked up on and, yeah, the similarities were numerous. You might enjoy tracking them down. (BTW, one of them was charmed at the idea I was Jack; the other was deeply worried I might be. :) )

Gandhi, in contrast, had Moon in the exact degree of Mars' fall. I've seen many examples that support the idea that this is the least martial degree of the zodiac. Gandhi had plenty of Mars in his character including a close Moon-Mars square, yet is honored in history as a force of peace.

This also could be attributed to his Mars in Libra - in the same way Martin Luther King, Jr. had Mars in Taurus.

In any case, other factors are the most interesting and most representative, including his remarkable aspect structure. But I thought I'd mention the anti-exaltation degree, the opposite of the importance of Mars exaltation degree for Parsons.
