A few questions

Post by rcooke13 »

In terms of relocating to New Orleans and my birth info (1/27/1990, 12:28am EST), I had a few questions.

I'm trying to find out what house my venus falls in in New Orleans. Is it 3rd or 4th? (I'm trying to see if I'm getting the right info for myself when I do it.)

For the zodiac system, do you use Lagan, Lahiri or Raman?

Last, what star(s) is over New Orleans for me? I want to make sure I don't have any awful stars in the area for me.

This, of course, depends on house system and how people assess house cusps. First, we're not sure houses matter anyway but, to answer your question, your Venus falls several degrees on the 3rd house side of the IC, though some people think anything within several degrees of the cusp counts as 4th house - your call on that.
For the zodiac system, do you use Lagan, Lahiri or Raman?
None of those. We aren't Hindu/Vedic, we're Sidereal. You'll usually see it listed as Fagan-Bradley or Fagan-Allen. The correct technical name is the Synetic Vernal Point (SVP).

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you want to know if any stars are on angles? Of the 50 or so stars on my list, Altair is within a degree of your IC and Spica within a degree of your Ascendant for New Orleans.

Yes, those stars. I had a couple questions about those stars. I read that "Altair with venus" is unfavorable, odd attractions, bad for kids, losses through friends, etc. I'm not sure if they meant Altair near a venus line? Since I have venus in New Orleans and Altair, then is that considered "Altair with venus" and means the above for me would be true?

Do I have Altair "with" any other planets? Or is this too nonvalid since it's with planets?

With Spica, is it in conjunction with my Mercury or Venus?

Do you see if Spica is placed in my angular houses and conjoined with Saturn, Mars, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto?

Or are these nonvalid since it's with planets?

First, understand that the value of fixed stars remains unclear. The evidence is very thin. To the extent that there is evidence, it generally supports Ptolemy's attributions of characteristics of the stars. (It also seems to say that no ecliptical aspects are valid, only mundane aspects; so all my answers here will be about that.)

So first: I'm not definitively saying what is or isn't so because this is very thin, minor stuff that may not mean anything at all; but I'm willing to give you a qualified answer based on the thing evidence and tradition as long as you understand that that's what I'm doing.

Altair is historically considered a Mars-Jupiter star. It seems pretty macho, enthusiastic, much like a Mars-Jupiter aspect or a "positively tinged Mars." I suppose with Venus it could sometimes give an "afflicted Venus" quality, but I'd doubt the severe indications you mention. At most, it could get one in trouble because one tends to overdo things and not take reasonable precautions under a lot of Mars+Jupiter.

Your Venus does not conjoin Altair. It has no mundane conjunctions with any star for New Orleans.
With Spica, is it in conjunction with my Mercury or Venus?
No, neither mundanely nor ecliptically. (Spica is at 29°06' Virgo.)
Do you see if Spica is placed in my angular houses and conjoined with Saturn, Mars, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto?

Spica is classically considered one of the most benevolent stars in the sky. However it forms no mundane aspects with any of your planets other than a weak paran-square with your Neptune. (of questionable value).

I wouldn't worry about any of this.

It's kinda dangerous in New Orleans right now - I was thinking of going for my birthday in October and we changed our minds. Its one of the biggest Covid areas in the country right now.

So be careful.

PS - What did you experience in Atlanta?

Oh thanks for the warning. I will try to visit New Orleans next summer.

Atlanta looks nice, the areas are beautiful. But the people are so impersonal. I don't sense or feel a community feel. Not very friendly or open or welcoming to strangers, just like the Northeast, and I'm trying to get away from the Northeast for one of those reasons. It feels and looks like already-made families living their lives and outsiders can't get inside. It felt lonely. I want a community feel. Extroverted, open, friendly people who will welcome you and, idk...talk to you. Seems New Orleans may be that.
