September 2021 events

Post by Jupiter Sets at Dawn »

How much has happened in less than a week? Hurricanes floods, pandemic, Roe v Wade. Seems like too much to deal with.

Rhino loose

Post by Jupiter Sets at Dawn »

September 7, 2021, 1:00PM (till about 2 PM), Henry Doorly Zoo, Omaha, NE.
About 1 PM zoo visitors noticed a rhino eating grass on a hillside outside the rhino enclosure. It was Jontu, a young male born at the zoo as part of the breeding program for endangered Asian rhinos. People were taken inside mostly into the Aquarium while zoo workers enticed the rhino with apples and other fruit, and got him back inside the enclosure. Nobody hurt or even scared. He was out about 50 minutes. Apparently a gate nobody much used hadn't latched properly and the curious boy nosed it open. The latch has already been replaced.

7.0 Acapulco earthquake

Post by Jim Eshelman »

Sep 8, 2021, 1:47:47 UT, 16N58'54'', 99W46'22'' (near Acapulco)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Guerrero_earthquake

Originally reported as 7.1, now showing on USGS as 7.0. It shook Mexico City (230 miles away). 92 aftershocks struck in the next few hours.

So far, 2 deaths are reported. Physical damage included structural damage to buildings, gas leaks, fallen lamp posts, a lot of broken glass, and disrupted traffic. Over a million and a half people were without power, including people in Mexico City. A Tsunami of 1.2 feet occurred off Acapulco.

The event chart is of no particular interest. In fact, the charts over all are exceptionally poor. Unless we count this as "whew, lucky almost nobody was hurt," they make no sense (and I don't think we can use that excuse). Perhaps I should take the same charts for Mexico City.

That may influence tides as far as New Zealand.
An Earthquake on the coast like that with the tides under the moon and the direction of the currents could change water levels and flood very far away from the source of the quake.

La Palma volcano eruption

Post by Jim Eshelman »

September 19, 2021, 14:12 UT, La Palma, Canary Islands, 28N36'54" 17W52'07"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_La_Palma_eruption

Yesterday's eruption forced the mandatory evacuation of four villages. Homes and other buildings are reported on fire. No injuries. There was no explosion large enough to show as an earthquake - I scanned down to magnitude 1.5 and saw nothing in the Canary Islands. Mars was on Zenith as the eruption began.

In a location where Saturn conjoined Descendant in the Capsolar, and a Mercury-Neptune square fell on angles in the Cansolar, the Caplunar had a Moon-Pluto conjunction within 2° of Descendant. (The new Arilunar was not persuasive with Venus-Uranus square MC, unless it turns out to be a lovers' quarrel or some such thing.)

Transiting Mars squared Cansolar Asc (1°10') for the event.

Switzerland votes to make same-sex marriage legal

Post by TheScales_BothWays »

Switzerland voted "Yes" to make same-sex marriage legal in a referendum held earlier today (Sept 26) by a two-thirds majority. The civil code amendment that got voted in would also grant rights to same-sex couples to adopt unrelated children, and allow lesbian couples to have children through sperm donation.

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/sw ... 021-09-26/
(EDIT: The BBC article I first linked reported on vote projections, not the actual results. Replaced it with this Reuters article reporting on the results.)

Bern's Cansolar is dormant, so have a look at its Arisolar! Venus partile on Descendant, Uranus squares MC and Moon squares Jupiter (0°18' in mundo)!

The amendment initially passed through the Swiss Federal Assembly. Switzerland is a semi-direct democracy, and conservative groups managed to collect enough signatures in a petition to get the amendment to go through a referendum. Also, apparently Switzerland has been trying to legalise same-sex marriage since 2013 but faced pushback from conservatives.

What a great event :) And yes, the Arisolar is a fabulous chart.

Don't entirely dismiss the Cansolar, though. While dormant, it still has that staggeringly close Moon-Sun-Pluto T-square effective everywhere. Besides simply showing radical shifts in conditions, it seems to specifically apply to this because Moon-Sun aspects are common for events that affect the definition of marriage! This event is the way (or, a way) that Switzerland is working it out.

Examples at hand where Moon-Sun expresses a marriage theme in ingresses: Princess (now Queen) Elizabeth's wedding, Charles & Diane wedding, New Jersey same-sex marriages began, Loving v. Virginia decided by US Supreme Court, Baskin v. Bogan by SCOTUS, and (on the other side) the 2004 U.S. elections wherein numerous states approved constitutional amendments restricting the definition of “marriage” to monogamous heterosexual union.

True! I must've missed the glaringly obvious T-square as I skimmed through Bern's current charts, looking only at the angles. And thanks for the great examples showing Sun-Moon's marriage theme, Jim!
