School's out at LA schools today. The whole LAUSD system was shut down by a bomb thread called into one school board member.

The threat is astrologically credible. The new Caplunar for Los Angeles has Moon closely square Midheaven - a main effect of which is to produce events involving children. This wakes the Caplunar from dormancy, and snaps our attention to a Mars-Uranus opposition widely foreground - but close - and in very close mundane square to Moon. In the mundoscope:

20°19' Uranus
21°57' Moon
22°35' Mars

LA has had a really tough Capsolar all year, and at the moment it's worse: Transiting Saturn EXACTLY crosses downtown LA's Capsolar Eastpoint today (applying by 2' at the moment). This is the kind of aspect under which seriously bad stuff happens (e.g., massive earthquakes and things of similar loss-impact). So the threat is astrologically credible (as said above), and it's probably good they're taking the precautions. (Did I mention that Neptune continues its long-term tight transit to LA's Capsolar IC?)

Of course, the Saturn could be just the atypically cold weather we're having

Otherwise, the charts are pretty clear for the day.

PS - This was a hoax, but it had its impact for the day.

Today the Federal Reserve raised its prime interest rate for the first time since 2006. It went up a modest 0.25%.

The current Caplunar is quite negative for the short-term impact, so I'd guess we're going to see some unreasonable pessimism and consequent market drop. (The day started with a 100+ point spike that quickly dribbled down to "break even" and, at the moment, is surprisingly climbing.)

In shorter term trends, today Mars starts its 2-3 day transit of the Washington Capsolar MC. CapQ Ascendant has just left orb of Saturn (the ingress Mars-Saturn square) but is still close to square progressed Mars. In contrast, CanQ Descendant is on transiting Saturn.

The market went up because Janet Yellen in her press conference, said future rate hikes will be gradual, the economy merits only "gradual increases" and rates are likely to remain low "for some time."
Words are everything in this, and Yellen said exactly the right thing.
It means the Federal Reserve thinks the recession is over and the economy is strong but there will be time for businesses to start buying equipment and make capital improvements, before rates go up again.

The market (DJIA) ended down 367 points today, after a few hundred others points of drop over the week. There goes that Saturn-Neptune square on the Caplunar angles for the week! Down for the week, and solidly on target to be down for the month unless there is a big turn-around.

The Arilunar seems primarily to signify the horrendous weather conditions that have hit the nation (especially the south) this week. This Arilunar continues to flow into the new week, with Moon aspects to Mars and Mercury.

Two more shootings by police in Chicago last night are drawing concentrated negative attention to the area. Sure enough, yesterday's CapQ had 7° Scorpio rising, meaning Capsolar Saturn (squared 08' by Mars) is exactly on the angle.

Transiting Neptune remains within half a degree of the Cansolar IC. Transiting Saturn is a few minutes from Cansolar EP. It's pretty ugly.

UPDATE Dec 28. As expected, the pressure is increasing on Mayor Rahm Emmanuel. This man has presidential aspirations, so he isn't going quietly and surely will bring things under control eventually... but he's getting more than a little heat right now. Notice the "removal" theme of Saturn-Neptune trying to get some action right now.

Weather across the South has been deadly the last few days, and yesterday it hit Dallas with tornadoes that killed 8 people.

The December 20 Arilunar was severe for everywhere, since it had a < 3° Moon-Mars opposition. Then, in similar but more extreme terms, the December 26 Canlunar (yesterday) has a Moon-Mercury-Mars T-square - same severity but with wind (and other Mercury themes we'll likely see this week) - affecting everyone everywhere. Here are the placements.

29°28' Sag - Mercury
0°00' Can - Moon
0°50' Lib - Mars

For Dallas, these are not quite close enough... the chart is technically dormant... but the mundoscope discloses that we also have a Moon-Mercury-Uranus T-square.

The CapQ for Dallas has all the malicious factors just a bit too far away to count. Well, all but one: It barely has transiting Neptune in orb of CapQ IC, separating, so there is certainly room for head-spinning, confusion panic. And the CanQ has everything not yet quite there, still applying. If you really want to push it, t. Saturn is on the LibQ Midheaven yesterday.

Iraq announced that its forced had liberated Ramadi from ISIL.

The current Caplunar for Baghdad has Sun rising squared by Jupiter, and Mercury square MC. A triumph would have been expected this month. (The Arilunar has Venus-Neptune angular, which is more ambiguous, especially with Neptune stronger.)

Neptune continues to transit in exact square to Baghdad's Capsolar Ascendant (to the exact minute in the current 24-hour period).

South Korea announced that it had reached a satisfactory resolution with Japan on historic conflicts over Korean women used as "comfort women" during the WW II Japanese occupation of Korea. Japan will make a formal apology and pay about $8 million.

For Seoul, the current Caplunar has Jupiter setting < 3°. (All intervening lunar ingresses are dormant, so this remains the Chart of the Week as well as Month chart.)

Pluto has been in long-term transit to Seoul's Cansolar MC, and is currently about a quarter of a degree out. Yesterday had the strange mix in the CanQ of MC conjunct transiting Jupiter, and Asc square transiting Neptune.

Meanwhile, we've had over a week of severe, deadly weather across more than half of the southern half of the United States. The very worst locations generally have had appropriate ingresses and quotidians for the worst moments, but this has seemed a national-level matter that is not geographically localized to one place.

With that in mind, Washington, DC has had some ugly lunar ingresses (under a Pluto-driven Libsolar); and lunar ingresses seem to have the most to do with weather conditions.

The December 13 Caplunar for Washington has Saturn-Neptune tightly angular and in aspect.

The December 20 Arilunar has Saturn within a degree of Midheaven and Neptune nearly as close to Eastpoint, the two of them still square each other. To this, add a universal aspect, Moon opposite Mars, mark of severity, violent force, and destruction.

The December 26 Canlunar is dormant, but with a tight Moon-Mercury-Mars T-square universal to all locations.

Thirteen people dead so far in the Missouri-Mississippi flooding. Record water levels expected through the next week all the way south to the Gulf of Mexico. As the water moves south the Mississippi is expected to get 50 feet over flood stage in places.

Sewage plants are already inundated and dumping sewage into the rivers.
