Alabama's deadliest natural disaster was a tornado "super outbreak" April 25-28, 2011, Tornado Outbreak.

Over these three days, there were 352 confirmed tornadoes., 348 people died, over 2,200 were injuries, and about $11B worth of property damage occurred.

April 27 was the most active tornado day (218 individual tornadoes that day, four of them EF5). An exceptionally large, destructive tornado hit Tuscaloosa about 5:10 PM (this seems to be the central event to use; Steve said it was clearly the worst hit, by a large margin), and 40 minutes later the same one hit Birmingham.
