Wyoming's worst natural disaster was the Backwater fire of 1937 in which 15 firefighters died, 38 other people were injured. The fire consumer 1,700 acres.

August 18-24, 1937, in Shosone National Forest near Cody, WY. The fire was started by lightning August 18 but only detected "early August 20" (I'll use 0:00). The 15 firefighters killed was more than in any other in a United States National Forest since 1910. - August 20, 1937, 0:00, Cody, WY.
