"The Heist of the Century"

On March 18, 1990, at 1:24 AM, Boston, MA, thieves entered the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (masquerading as police officers) and completed the greatest art theft of all time. To date, the paintings are unrecovered, and the thieves have never been found. (The statute of limitations has now expired.)

Thirteen paintings were stolen, estimated at $500 million, including works by Rembrandt, Degas, Monet, and others.
