Mystic Massacre

Post by Jim Eshelman »

May 26, 1637, 41N21'46", 71W58'41"

As a retaliation for earlier attacks, English settlers and their native allies "set fire to a fortified Pequot village near the Mystic River", shooting anyone who tried to escape and killing the entire village
The attackers arrived "on the night of May 26, 1637," which I take to mean after sunset, initially tried an outright surprise attack but were repelled, and then decided to burn the village and block all exits. Sunset was 7:17 PM LMT. I'm going for 9:00 PM as a working time.

Pequot deaths were 400-700, "including women, children, and elderly, as the warriors were out on a raiding party."
