Post by Jim Eshelman »

June 30, 1900, about 4:00 PM, at the docks of Hoboken, NJ (specifically 40N44'19'', 74W01'36''). Cotton bales stored at the wharf caught fire, then winds drove the fire toward nearby barrels of volatile liquids; these exploded in rapid succession, The fire killed at least 326 people and burned the piers completely down to the waterline.
