1950 events

Post by Jim Eshelman »

Among the interesting events of 1950, on January 7 (time not found) in Davenport, IA, a fire destroyed Mercy Hospital, killing 41 patients.

CAPSOLAR wasn't very good. Sun square MC is the closest (and it opposes Moon in mundo), and otherwise we have the three benefics foreground. Libsolar is at least startling, with Uranus precisely setting (20') squared by Mercury. Moon opposes Mars ecliptically but, for Davenport, there is a triple mundane conjunction of Moon, Mars, and Pluto.

CAPLUNAR is misleading, with Jupiter and Venus tightly straddling Ascendant, and a close Moon-Jupiter mundane square. With a dormant Canlunar, though, we get a descriptive week chart in the ARILUNAR, which has a close (2°08') Venus-Pluto opposition foreground and a close Moon-Neptune mundane opposition. (Moon squares Mercury ecliptically.)

CAPQ brings Sun and Uranus to angles. The only thing that really zeroes in on the day is Saturn just barely - 2°00' - within orb of square Cansolar Ascendant,

Overall, it's a poor showing.

The Korean War began when North Korea sent troops across the 38th parallel on June 25, 1950. Since the action was inaugurated by Pyongyang, I check the charts for there.

CAPSOLAR has very little, but does manage Moon square MC. ARISOLAR, though, is quite bellicose, with Mars partile opposite Moon, the two being directly along the meridian (Mars 25; from MC, Moon just over 1° from IC). Venus squares Ascendant, however.

CAPLUNAR (June 3) primarily has only Neptune square Asc. A close (2°16') Venus-Uranus square is more widely foreground. The Jun 18 CANLUNAR held back action for the week, with Jupiter exactly square MC (even though Saturn and Mercury were also angular). Then the June 25 LIBLUNAR has Mars square Ascendant (1°34'), Mercury 32' from EP, Sun 48' from Asc, Uranus 1°00' on the other side, Saturn 3°41' from IC, mundane Sun-Uranus conjunction and Saturn-Uranus square - altogether a classic war declaration and militarization map with brutal disruption of things as they were. (A shade of Jupiter touches MC.)

War broke out with transiting Saturn square CapQ Moon 0°12', and then CapQ MC opposing transiting Pluto. Against this, transiting Jupiter squared CapQ Asc. Jupiter keeps presenting itself as a factor, since it crossed Capsolar IC < 1° and was half a degree from square Capsolar Moon. Pluto also squared Cansolar M by about half a degree.

So the whole was disruptive, severing, and transforming of relationships, and also imperialistic.

On June 27, Pres. Truman ordered U.S. troops to Korea. Transiting Saturn was 7' from square CapQ Moon. The June 24 Liblunar had Pluto conjunct MC (51').

Pope Pius XII witnessed the Miracle of the Sun (originally seen at Fatima) at the Vatican November 1, and proclaimed the bodily assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

CAPLUNAR, in addition to a 09' Moon-Sun square, has Uranus < 2°from MC and more widely foreground Mercury, Venus, and Neptune, with Venus tightly conjunct Neptune (3') in the sign of the Virgin. It is a chart of revelation and disclosure. ARILUNAR is more indicative of the proclamation, with a 3' Mercury-Venus conjunction half a degree from Ascendant (and opposed by a foreground Moon), with Sun (Pope & Sun) also foreground.

Day charts are hardly persuasive. In the world, CapQ Moon was 0°01' from square Saturn, and, for the Vatican, Mars crossed CapQ Descendant.

November 24, a horrendous winter storm ravaged the U.S. northeast, bringing 30 to 50 inches of snow and sub-zero temperatures. 323 people died.

CAPSOLAR fir the year had the Venus-Pluto opposition along the meridian for the East Coast. CANSOLAR had a universal Moon-Pluto conjunction. LIBSOLAR put Mars angular through Main, near New Hampshire and Vermont.

CAPLUNBAR is the expected precipitation chart, with Jupiter on IC through the region. (For much of the area, Moon-Neptune were square in mundo.)

CapQ Moon was still in partile square to ingress Saturn for all locations. Ingress Uranus, squared by transiting Saturn, were on CapQ angles for the NE in general. For extremes, Pluto transited Capsolar IC for much of the region.
