Note his angular signature of mundo Venus 1,23 cnj Dsc partile 90 Moon. Here again we see classic Sidereal Astrology teachings where:American performer with incredible singing talent, whose mixture of pop and gospel laid the foundations for the rise of modern soul music. He had 29 Top Forty hits before he was tragically killed. In 1956 he made his transition to secular pop with the "Lovable" single.
Angularity and aspects to the lights are of the up most importance in astrology.Holy S—t!!! Jim, check out his SA in Long for 12/11/1964 for his tragic death:Then at the peak of his career, Sam Cooke was tragically killed on 12/11/1964. Though details of the circumstances remain hazy; according to reports he was shot three times by the female manager of a Los Angeles motel who claimed she acted in self-defense. Cooke allegedly raped a 22-year-old woman and then turned to the manager. The death was ruled a justifiable homicide. However, it was rumored that many of the crucial details of the case were buried in deference to Cooke’s second wife and two children who wished no further publicity or scrutiny.

Re: Sam Cooke (Singer, performer)
Wow! An excellent single-case example of the thing I've been looking at here.
To make clear what Steve found: This isn't a Solar Arc direction per se. The SA rate is used for the progressed MC (which reached 11°37' Pisces), and then this MC is the basis for the "primary" version of the progressed angles. For this 11°37' Pisces MC, the Ascendant is 25°34' Gemini - not a Solar Arc Ascendant, but a "progressed Ascendant" at the SA/Long or P1-S rate.
That Ascendant conjoined p. Pluto at 25°10' Gemini, opposed p. Saturn at 26°06' Sagittarius, conjoined r. Pluto at 25°46' Gemini. The progressed Saturn/Pluto midpoint is 25°38', a mere 0°04' from the progressed angle if the birth time is presumed to be exactly correct. Progressed and natal Neptune were 45/135 the Saturn-Pluto.
There were other things going on in the progressions. In particular, it was a significant period because progressed Sun and Moon were only 0°23' from exact square. Sun was still in orb of opposition to his natal Neptune. Progressed Venus, though not within orb of the progressed angle, was < 1° from conjunct p. Saturn.
Striking example of progressions.

Re: Sam Cooke (Singer, performer)
As a wild guess, I'm using 10 PM. (Sounds like a late evening activity, doesn't it?) EDIT: Recalculating for 3 AM time, per JS@D.SteveS wrote:Jim, it would appear the partile cnj in the heavens of Mars-Pluto on 12/11/1964 partile 120 Cooke’s r. Saturn, and partile 180 his r. TRANSITS:
t. Pluto -180- r. Moon (0°32')
t. Pluto -90- r. Venus (0°22') -- MIDPOINT
t. Mars -180- r. Moon (0°9')
t. Mars -90- r. Venus (0°45')
t. Saturn -0- r. MC (1°53', probably too wide)
SLR: Moon was at 16° Aquarius, so he was in the last hours before a new Lunar Return. The incoming SLR is not very descriptive given what we know - it has Jupiter 31' from EP, Neptune 48' from WP, and of course Jupiter opposite Neptune and both tied to a foreground Venus. Saturn doesn't quite make it into orb of square SLR Ascendant. Natal Mars is near the IC (and that, plus t. Venus, may be showing the sexual activities that are implied by the transits and the unspoken parts of the story), but it's a pretty crummy showing overall. (If indeed she was defending herself, then his natal Mars angular is exactly accurate.)
EDIT: His then-active SLR (from November 14) had Moon on IC opposite a Uranus-Pluto conjunction at MC (and all square natal Moon on EP). Transiting Mars was widely square Asc (but still < 3°). His November 26 Demi-SLR had Neptune square Ascendant. (Jupiter was too wide to count.)
SSR: His current SSr had his natal Saturn-Pluto on the angles, a tight Moon-Neptune opposition, and kindness from t. Jupiter. Transits to the SSR gave no help.
QUOTIDIANS: The SNQ had p. Mars on IC. But, Steve, you're gonna love the SQ on this one: Asc 21°43' Leo, capturing (within 1°) t. Mars-Pluto's opposition to natal Moon and square to natal Venus. Transiting Uranus joins the Mars-Pluto within just over 1° from the angles.

Ah, so it was late in the evening - just on the other side of midnight.
I've edited the above posts to reflect data from the correct time.
