Hi Solunars!
I’m wondering if anyone can help with insight or advice on career based on my chart? I was laid off in January and haven’t been able to find work since then. Would moving to another location help?
Birth info: May 26, 1980, 8:10 AM, Udupi, India 13n21, 74e45
I’m currently in the US - residing near my Mars & Uranus lines in Portland, Oregon.
Thank you kindly!

Re: Career insight based on birth chart?
Welcome to Solunars. Apologies that it has taken a couple of days to acknowledge your post (work matters are especially intense right now and I was travelling last weekend).
Perhaps one of my colleagues can jump in, or I can get to this question over the weekend. (Just so you know, and not to make excuses, this weekend we're engineering a complete power shutdown of our office building including my taking down all internal IT functions for overnight building servicing and then restoring them. There won't be much time, but I'll try.)

Hi tvgem and welcome to the forum. If I had your Natal, I may try seeking work/employment in the travel industry which would require a lot of “depth of thought, mental work", if this is a pratical option for you. Working with large groups of women requiring social communications & organizational/structural duties would be even better. Good luck to you tvgem .

Re: Career insight based on birth chart?
If I have calculated correctly, you have Venus at the Ascendant in your birth chart.
When we move you to Portland, Oregon; Uranus comes to the Ascendant and Mars culminates. In scientific, technical, or humanitarian thrusts, this might be advantageous; but likely somewhat unsettling in any case. (it suggests excitement-driven "leap before you look and then regret it," circumstances, among other things)
Uranus relates to sudden, explosive changes and insights. Mars at the Midheaven is building in courage, somehow. Usually, to build courage, we need challenges, where we have to put forth our best (or at least a good "fight") in order to pass the muster.
However, I think crucial to understanding your current situation (ie. orientation), is that we look at your place in the ~29 year progressed lunar cycle. From Jan 2023 -> Jul 2026, you are in the Balsamic phase of the cycle, which is a time of clearing out space in your life for the upcoming thrust of the whole new ~29 year cycle, beginning Jul 2026. Usually, the life has become cluttered at this point, yet there are things that (due to our inner priorities/perspective changing) have depreciated in value and need to be dropped and other things (that are irrelevant to the upcoming cycle) have to be said goodbye to.
In terms of current developments, I think it is noteworthy to see that you are at the midpoint of your Uranus cycle. This is usually a strong dose of individualism and uniquely-defined expressions of self. Anything that prevents freedom or appears to limit liberty or keep you from (arbitrarily) being yourself; will likely be rebelliously approached. What needs to happen in life to get back that "sizzle"? As far as the current work circumstance, I suspect you are somehow, on some level barking up the wrong tree. As Saturn squares the Sun, there is often some austerity or hardship that somehow gets our nose back on our individual grindstone, so to speak. We notice that with Sun on the 12th (topocentric!) cusp, a square from Saturn also squares the 6th/12th House powerpoints. Work thrusts that appear as obstacles or disappointments are likely indications of activity in the wrong direction for your personally. (highlighted by the concurrent Uranus opposition to itself) Additionally, we see Solar Arc Uranus has come to your Descendant. There are many things this can relate to, but it suggests stimulating, exciting, or unsettling changes, often experienced through others. Certainly, its opposition to the Ascendant implies some change that has to occur for a freer you.
Honestly, without peering much more deeply, I already get the feel that a major embarking somehow away from current circumstances and towards something more closely fitting to you personally (in terms of interest and excitement) is on order, and I believe this will potentially involve geographic displacement, even though I haven't searched out specific markers for same into your astrological future.
In the main, your chart suggests to me some main thrust towards intangible, universal goals, likely in some spiritual/creative/empathetic direction; which often is a thrust that can undermine security. Aesthetics and relational talent are likely strongly featured. In career things, so much depends on individual interests and opportunities.
Good luck!

Re: Career insight based on birth chart?
TYSM for your reply! How interesting. I have always loved travel but never thought to make it a vocation. That may very well be worth looking into! As for social communications - I have done that a lot in previous roles, though not with large groups of women(!) Good to know that at least some of my work history has been true to my nature =)SteveS wrote: Thu Aug 17, 2023 5:41 am Hi tvgem and welcome to the forum. Re: Career insight based on birth chart?
Thank you for the in depth look at various aspects of my chart! Yes, Venus was at the Ascendant at birth, and Uranus takes that role where I live currently. It has been a struggle dealing with the unpredictable energies - prior to that I spent a decade (age 31-41) in CA which is by my Mars/MC line, and many spent many of my formative years (ages 4-14) there as well. (20 years total!) So that Martian energy has really impacted my career and approach to life - I've always dived feet first into things and approached life with a boldness that has payed off well for me. Though with significant planets in Virgo, the bold risks have always been tempered by a cool analytical mind!
Here are my answers to Jim's astro-vocational questions:
What sorts of vocation interests you?
- artist, counseling, communications, writer/journalist, medicine (the healing aspect)
What kind of work have you done before that you liked? That you did not like?
- I have some training in studio tv production which I enjoyed, and part of me thinks I should pursue this further, but I would need to get a Masters degree most likely to do so.
I don't think I would like sales or marketing, and the business world feels very artificial to me. I'm drawn to nature and the outdoors and to animals especially. Also the ocean.
I have been a photographer but while I enjoy shooting, I don't like sitting at a computer editing. I feel like a lot gets lost because of this procrastination or resistance which I can't really explain.
Are you already studying, certified, or licensed in a field? How do you feel about those areas?
- About to study Data Science in the fall, which it sounds like I'm in a good place to study with the Uranian influence emphasizing science and technical learning. Labor statistics say this is an in demand job, but I am not sure I will end up working in this field as I just don't see many job postings for it.
I have a degree in Photography, but as I mentioned above, I have some resistance to editing and curating my work. I get bored and want to move on to the next project. I suppose if I had to do this as a business, I'd hire an editor
Please name three or four or five fields (or kinds of work) you want to seriously consider. For each, please give a sentence (just one or two sentences) about what each job means to you (why you feel positively or negatively about it).
- Psychology (a longtime dream of mine to study but life had other plans!)
- Art - highly skilled as a painter and illustrator but never pursued it as a career (a bit fish out of water as family always emphasized math/sci and I don't have any connections in the art world)
- Teaching - has been encouraged by friends as a stable profession, though I think school counseling might be a better fit for me. Again, another path that requires investment in Masters level schooling.
- Computer science/data science - using my analytical skills to help companies make decisions. From all my research this seemed like the best option, and the direction of opportunity (doors opening). It would be a steady career to change into and one that would allow me to pursue the art/humanities that I love in my spare time. Doesn't require a masters degree, but it's hard to say how easy it will be to get work as there are many out of work in this area.
- Writing - I have always been a writer, but until recently never thought to share any of it with the world. I recently took a trip with women writers and the experience was highly liberating... it gives me hope that I could potentially do this as a profession over time, the universe willing
