Mercury-Venus aspects: What's the deal?

Post by Jim Eshelman »

(6/21/15)

I want to start a discussion and solicit opinions on the operation of Mercury-Venus aspects in mundane astrology. So far, the examples available are mostly puzzling. Possibly we just don't have enough examples yet - possibly (as with some other benefic-trending aspects such as Venus-Jupiter) we just have a low turn-out for the kind of events showing. On the other hand, the small list of Mercury-Venus events tends to be nasty.

The criteria for listing an event under a non-lunar aspect is that the planets be conjunct, opposite, or square (within close orbs, generally cutting off at 3°) and closely foreground.

Possibly others of you can have insight into what the nasty events listed below might have in common, or insights on why we aren't getting many of the obvious Mercury-Venus themes. (My current theories are the two mentioned above, that we don't have enough events yet, and that we have the wrong kind of events, so most of what we are getting is "noise" when Mercury-Venus, like all aspects, occasionally randomly appears where you don't expect it).

Any insights?

VE Day for Britain (month). This is the classic. "End of war," peace treaty etc. It's the most perfect Mercury-Venus event I can imagine.
Hiroshima bomb (day). Seems horrible and out of place. It might, however, be showing as "end of war," inaugurating Japanese conversations behind the scene that resulted, a few days later, in the end of the war.
Alan Shepard flight (quarter). "Good flight," our first time putting a man in space, general happiness, "good press."

Ronan Point collapse (quarter).
Hurricane Katrina (day).
Great Chicago Fire (year).
L’Innovation Department Store fire (quarter).
Bastille stormed (month).
Ludlow massacre for Washington (year).
1991 Buddhist temple murders (week).
Franklin D. Roosevelt death (month).

Jupiter Sets At Dawn wrote:Many of these events are of the kind that bring waves of prayers and support for the victims. An outpouring of care and love for people... humanity? in general. Agape - the expression of god as love of others. Prayer vigils, collecting food and clothing to send to victims, and so on. The Church - all and any churches - in action in group acts of caring, done publically to encourage others to help.
