Born: October 9, 1940, 6:30 PM BST, Liverpool, England
Murdered: December 8, 1980, 10:50 PM, New York, NY
There is controversy over John Lennon's birth time sufficient for Astro.com to have changed its raging from A to DD. An excellent source quotes John's Aunt Mimi quite explicitly that she was calling the hospital every five minutes and at 6:30 PM (reinforced by saying "dusk") she was told John had been born. Another quite respected biography said 7 AM (a time repeated frequently decades ago, but they could have all been copying the same source) and, while this does not quote Aunt Mimi directly, she reviewed and commented on the book's manuscript and made no corrections regarding the time.
What everyone seems to agree on, though, is that he was born during (or just before) an air raid. - Then other researches cite Wikipedia as saying that those air raids occurred in the morning. I do not trust the Wikipedia article on the Liverpool Blitz because it says there were 50 raids over three months and then only lists about half a dozen (and Wikipedia's failure to list October 9 is wrongly cited as proof that there was no raid that day).
But there WAS an air raid on Liverpool October 9. Like my late friend Marion March, I found the London Times report for the next day - October 10, 1940 - specifically saying, "Manchester, London and Liverpool were again assailed, and following up on Göring’s directive, fifteen RAF airfields were bombed." Notice at the time of the article it specifies "Night."

Based on this, I interpret that Liverpool had air attacks in the "night" of October 9, 1940 and, if (as widely reported) John was born during (or just before) an air raid, then he was born at "night" and not in the morning.
The quote from Aunt Mimi should be believed. In it, she said she called the hospital every five minutes and at 6:30 PM was told the boy had been born. This suggests he was born just before 6:30 PM (probably later than 6:25 PM). The quote correctly identifies that time as "dusk," and at 6:30 PM Sun was less than a degree below Descendant. The 6:30 PM time should be rated A (credible report of famnily or someone present) or B (from a biography).

Re: John Lennon
Solunars for this 6:30 PM time have always been strong. In my Solunars class, John's wedding lunar for Gibraltar is one of the excellent examples. His final Demi-SLR for his murder has (among other strong markers):
29°01' H6 - r Mars 8°45' Sag
29°12' H9 - t Mars 9°06' Sag
0°00' H10 - SLR MC 9°28' Sag
The full breakdown of the final (Nov 26, 1980) Demi-SLR is:
r Sun on Dsc -4°10'
t Saturn on Dsc -1°57'
t Jupiter on Dsc -0°09'

t Mars on MC +0°48'

Re: John Lennon
Given confidence in the basic birth time, and every reasonable expectation that it is really a few minutes (less than 5?) before 6:30 PM, are we able to fine tune it? At his birth time, natal angularities were changing rapidly enough that it may matter just a little when in the (say) 6:20 to 6:30 range he was born.
For example: For the 6:30 time, his nativity relocated to Manhattan had Mars 1°45' past Zenith. Since the birth was probably a minute (or a few) before 6:30, Mars probably was closer to Zenith in the city where, among other things, he was murdered.
Using his death as a first event, he has at least worthwhile Solar Arc directions regardless of time. such as d Mars op r Saturn 23' (and Jupiter 54'). But is there one involving a personal point? Directed/progressed Sun was 52' separating from opposition to his Uranus, probably describing the last major burst of creative work over his last year. The only other example is d Uranus op r MC if the birth time were two to six minutes earlier.
His SNQ suggests that the 6:30 PM time is exact to the minute! Here are the angles:
9°38' Cap - r Moon
9°55' Cap - SNQ MC
10°16' Can - r Pluto
1°38' Tau - r Uranus
2°07' Tau - SNQ Asc
2°30' Sco - p Sun
2°41' Sco - t Uranus
14°37' Ari - SNQ EP-a
14°37' Ari - p Jupiter
14°38' Lib - r Mercury
His SQ didn't contradict this, it just put a different (less impressive) focus, mostly on the issue of his being in the headlines I think. (t Mars was a few degrees from Dsc, I don't think it was the point.)
22°21' Vir - r Sun
22°37' Gem - SQ Asc
2°01' Vir - s Jupiter
2°07' Vir - r Neptune
3°05' Pis - SQ MC
Neither of these suggests a different birth time, although one thing that might is that, for 6:30 PM, his NYC MC was 4°49' Libra and his SQ Moon was 3°42' Lib. However, the PSSR Moon was 4°11' Lib, so I think it doesn't suggest an earlier birth time at all. (BTW, the PSSR had MC or EP exactly hitting transiting Mars.)
I think the 6:30 birth time is correct to the minute of time. This also would mean that, at the moment of his death, transiting Moon was 0°05' from his NYC Ascendant!
