As a study guide for April's Jupiter-Saturn conjunction - starting a new 13-year cycle - here is the time of the last cycle began (last conjunction) with the three periods we would expect significant developments and turning points in those events.

These are 3° zones of the ecliptical aspects.

Jupiter-Uranus conjunction: May 30, 2010 to Jan 12, 2011

Are there themes that began with this conjunction, have run their course and evolved in the intervening 13 years, and are in some sense coming around again?

2010 was the hear of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the devastating Haiti earthquake (and a string of other unusual earthquakes), and the dissipation of the 2009 Swine Flu epidemic. Barack Obama was in the middle of his first term as U.S. president and the push to establish a form of national healthcare support was underway and soon to succeed.

It was the year the iPad and Instagram appeared on the scene - evolution of these products and their successors, and of tech dominance overall, is surely swinging around again. Also, on the issue of technology as a basis of alternative energy sources, the first nonstop 24-houjr flight of a solar-powered airplane occurred. WikiLeaks leaked hundreds of thousands of classified reports concerning U.S. involvement in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. Near the exact date of the second conjunction, Operation Payback, a coordinated cyberattack, assaulted corporations, law firms, and politicians over the banning of file-sharing sites (we'll see much more of that this year).

2012, nearly on the exact day of the third conjunction, began a series of protests and revolutions across the Arab world titled Arab Spring, that began reshaping much of the Islamic world.

Jupiter-Uranus square: Aug 16, 2013 to May 1, 2014
Exact aspects 2013 8/21; and 2014 2/26, 4/20

We would expect the first significant developments of those initial trends at the first square, including a "testing" opportunity to see what form they would take and what ideas would prevail.

Barack Obama is in the first half of his second term as president.

Middle Eastern (generally Islamist) attacks are underway, with several major events beginning with a coup in Egypt and then two anti-coup (or counter-coup) waves killing thousands, and the Ghouta chemical attack during the Syrian Civil War (about the date of the first exact conjunction). The Westgate Shopping Mall attacks and hostage taking by al-Shabaab in Kenya. OTOH Iran agreed to limits on its nuclear development program (though Pres. Trump killed that deal years later).

Russia invaded (and later annexed) Crimea. Donetsk area unilaterally declared its independence from Ukraine. Among other steps taken, U.S. effected economic sanctions against Russia.

Windows 8.1 was released (with updates demanded for Windows 8) marking the time when device flexibility and especially tablet evolution to ordinary business purposes was erupting. In fact, by early 2014 the number of people in the U.S. using mobile devices for Internet access exceeded those using computers (near the exact date of the second conjunction).

The West Africa Ebola virus epidemic began near the second exact conjunction and stirred much concern for several months.

Jupiter-Uranus opposition: Dec 19, 2016 to Oct 23, 2017

With the opposition, we expect many of the themes begun at the conjunction to reach fruition. Others continue to evolve and some, tested and failing, can be expected to collapse or reverse.

And this was indeed a challenging time: Almost the exact day this aspect moved into orb, Donald Trump was confirmed by the Electoral College as U.S. president-elect and sworn in a month later. The period of the aspect marked most of the first year of his term of office and included some of the most energetic liberal protests in half a century.

In a follow-up to the square, the first proved-effective vaccine against Ebola was confirmed. In anticipation of things happening today (and in follow-up to more general steps by Netanyahu at the conjunction), the U.N. Security Council condemned Israeli settlements in Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.

Most U.S. troops were withdrawn from Afghanistan after 15 years of war (within a day of the first exact conjunction). - However, the Islamic State is quite strong and launching attacks in many places countries.

A new chemical weapons attack occurred in Syria, aimed at rebels in the ongoing civil war. In retaliation, U.S. launched 59 missiles at a Syrian air base. Russia condemns the U.S. and later Putin expels hundreds of U.S. diplomats.

In a parallel to earlier points, the WannaCry ransomware attack struck company computers in 150 countries. In June, a cyberattack (Petya malware) was launched against Ukraine.

Jupiter-Uranus square: Jan 13-22, 2021
Exact aspect 2021 Jan 17

This was a one-pass conjunction that came and went very fast. The main thing that occurred was that Joe Biden was inaugurated as U.S. president, reversing the actions occurring at the square. About the same time, the Covid-19 pandemic global death count passed two million people.

I can’t see any. We may be looking at repeating outer planets cycles in the wrong light for repeating themes, I really don’t know, but as astrologers we seem to be missing something. We may need to look at repeating outer planet cycles in the context where in the world a major event occurred with SMA Solar Ingresses when the outer planets were conjunct. For example: By far, the # 1 story of 2011 was Japan’s 9.0 earthquake March 11 2011 off their coast in the pacific which caused a devastating tsunami and threating nuclear disaster. But the only way to tie this event with a Jupiter-Uranus conjunction is with Tokyo’s/Fukushima 2011 Capsolar, but the Jup-Ur cnj was not angular. We see the biggest (Jupiter) unexpected (Uranus) event to every hit Japan except WW11 nuclear bombing. In other words: It takes looking at SMA Solar Ingresses as a whole when there was a major outer planet conjunction to determine certain themes corrlated to major world events.

For example: By going back to 2011 with the # 1 event being the 2011 9 earthquake off Japan's coast, I could/may expect DCs Arisolar to produce a huge angular (Jupiter) unexpected (Uranus) natural disaster with its Mars-Saturn Zenith cnj, for Biden/Harris to deal with their Mars-Saturn lunars. Like I said, when I try to determine set specific recurring themes with outer planet cnjs in the World I can't with normal mundane themes. Your question Jim about themes "coming around again" leaves no clear answers for us to determine.

Steve, I have a theory of why Jupiter-Uranus major hard aspects have been historically bad for the stock market even though the symbolism looks like they would be good (or, irregular at worst, absent any other contributor).

All of these historic troughs were measured against the DJIA. In its entire history, the Dow has been a collection of traditional, established, proven companies - those that, up until the current moment, have been important to the market. It's slow to change.

So - as Wall Street Journal was detailing today - the DJIA has historically been dominated by "old economy" (especially "old tech") stocks. But Jupiter-Uranus symbolism favors new tech, new money, new productivity and investment.

This year and last, measured by percentage of change (percentage of gains), the Dow is lagging way below the S&P. When this has happened before, we've seen significant shifts in the nature of the market. It did this for the dot-com boom (and then again for its bust). It did it in the market swings of the early '80s that eventually led to problems but, along the way, primarily showed shifts in what should be valued.

It's not hard to imagine how an index modelling "yesterday and today's business winners" would drop when the aspects say, "new tech, new market, new trends" are the winners.
