Mars + Mercury = The danger zone

Wayne Turner wrote:I might subtitle this post: A prophet is without honor in his own country. Here is a quote from Garth Allen's seminal article "Unveiling A New Tool" (American Astrology, July 1957, p.36): "The simplicity of the demonstration is the thing to marvel at...An airplane crashes headlong into a skyscraper: Mercury is rising in square to Mars." He is referring here to the B-25 bomber that crashed into the Empire State Building on July 28, 1945, at 9:49 am, EWT. He does not state what time he used, but it is apparent that he miscalculated the chart by one hour, so the square was actually quite far from the angles. However, we find an eerie parallel to this delineation on an even more fateful day--September 11, 2001. When the first plane crashed into the WTC north tower, Mercury was indeed rising. While it was not square Mars, transiting Mars was at the midpoint of the close MA 90 ME in the Inauguration chart for 20 January, 2001, 12:02 pm. Mars was setting at the inauguration near Philadelphia, the nation's first capital, about midway between New York City, another early capital, and Washington, DC, the current national seat. (I normally only look at conjunctions when I compare Draconic charts--calculated from the Moon's node--to others, but in this case there is a rather remarkable opposition that should be noted. Using the true node per Astrodienst, Draconic Mars is at 0LE45, while tropical Sun is 0AQ43, 2' from exact. The MC in Manhattan--where George Washington was first inaugurated and the WTC towers came down--is 29CA40, about a degree from these positions.)

Now I will turn to another painful day in our history, the assassination of President John Kennedy. According to Bradley, his PSSR in Dallas on November 22, 1963, put the IC at the midpoint of a 2° wide conjunction between Mars and Mercury. (From the March 1964 American Astrology, page 23. I have not checked this, but if you have software to do these charts, JFK's birth time is said to be about 3:00 pm.)

John Kennedy Jr also met a tragic end in a plane crash off of Martha's Vineyard on 16 July 1999. According to an article in the January 2003 AFA Bulletin by Gary Noel, his sidereal lunar return for this date occurred July 2nd, and it put his natal Mars on the Descendant, and his natal Mercury on the MC, opposite return Saturn. (His natal Saturn was also approximately rising in the return at Martha's Vineyard. Birth Data: 25 Nov 1960, 12:22 am EST, Washington, DC.)

While the carnival knife thrower can be entertaining, clearly this dynamic duo should not be ignored if they make a prominent joint appearance in a chart.

Regards,
Wayne
