Though the French Revolution is the biggest thing happening worldwide, for the U.S. specifically the city of Washington is being built as the new capital, including George Washington dedicating the cornerstone of the Capitol Building. Period dominated by the War of 1812 (an extension of the Napoleonic Wars in Europe).Square: Dec 2 1812; Jun 17 1813; Sep 15 1813
Cyrus McCormick is granted a patent for the reaper. Otherwise, not overly notable except that the slavery issue is heating up (abolitionists vs. anti-abolitionists), with occasional outbursts of open violent conflict.Conjunction: Mar 29 1834; Aug 6 1834; Jan 19 1835

Notably marked the time of our entry into WW II and national fervor for it. (On 5/21, a day before the first pass, a German submarine sank the U.S. ship SS Robin Moor, causing FDR to proclaim "an unlimited national emergency."Square: May 22 1941; Jan 14 1942; Feb 22 1942
Early months of JFK's administration with, among other things, America on a strong surge absorbed by the Space Race. (Construction of the berlin Wall began, as did the U.S. embargo against Cuba, mentioned as a measure of where in the Cold War we were.) Sandra Day O'Connor became first female SCOTUS justice.Opposition: Aug 29 1961; Apr 3 1962; Jun 3 1962
Concurrence of Reagan's election and John Lennon's murder (12/8) altered the tone of the world. Attempted Reagan assassination. Space Shuttle program inaugurates crewed reusable spacecraft.Square: Dec 7 1980, Jun 14 1981; Sep 22 1981
