Sometime in 1978, 19-year-old Madonna Ciccone dropped out of college and moved to New York City (first time ever on a plane) with $35 in her pocket. She went there to study dance. In 2013 she called it the bravest thing she's ever done in her life. I set in motion the things that would turn her into, y'know, Madonna.

I don't know when that year she made the move (though, if she was 19 as reported, it was before August 16). Setting the solar arcs for January 1, 1978 as an "earliest date" we quickly see that this is the year that would happen. First, directed (also progressed) Sun exactly conjoined natal Moon. Second, for this "bravest thing ever," directed Mars crossed natal MC. Non personal point contacts include the "everything changes now" directed Uranus conjunct her Pluto and Jupiter just within orb of opposite natal Mars. She was off and running!

Turning to secondary progressions, this was the year of a triple partile configuration of progressed Mercury-Venus square Mars. In January, progressed Moon moved through them - Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars all in hard major aspect within 1°. And, of course, progressed Sun conjoined her natal Moon as already mentioned.

Her first album (named after her and with her face the only feature of the jacket as usually is done) appeared in 1983, the year directed Venus conjoined her Sun and directed Mars crossed her Ascendant. Maverick was formed in 1992 as directed Neptune left her MC and directed Venus reached it (her progressed Mercury-Venus were still traveling in partile conjunction as they had throughout the '80s).

Her mother (after whom she had been named) died December 1, 1963. Interestingly, there were no personal point directions for this date unless there is significance in the "how do you interpret this?" directed MC square natal Ascendant. But her secondary progressions timed an important existential and identity themed event: progressed Sun-Moon were in partile square as progressed Mercury-Pluto conjoined within a few minutes. Transits for her mother's death began with Neptune opposite Madonna's Mars (48'), with Saturn having squared it in the recent past. Uranus had recently crossed her Ascendant (and Sun squared Ascendant on the day).

Her daughter was born October 14, 1998 soon after Evita finished shooting. She described this as a peak of her life, being artistically fulfilled and fulfilling her long-term dream of having a child. The solar arcs are confusing: Neptune square her Moon (17' ap) is the closest to a personal point. Jupiter square her Mercury (8') is the closest overall. Venus had left partile orb of her Ascendant months earlier. So perhaps this was merely a PR statement? Secondary progressions were more on the mark, this being the year of progressed Venus-Saturn square and nearly the week progressed Moon crossed her Descendant. Similarly, transiting Saturn was minutes from opposite Madonna's Venus, Mars crossed her MC, Pluto squared her Mercury, Jupiter squared her Saturn - I don't know the conditions of the birth.

Her angles are not really known. Unverified birth time. She has stated in an interview that an astrologer had thought she was Aquarius rising, so she had obviously tried to find out, but it wasn't sure.

This is really AA data: Astrologer Tashi Grady was on phone with a friend of the family. They called Madonna's father. He kept them on the line and called the hospital. Grady was on the line when the nurse at the hospital read the birth record for 7:05 AM.
