Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse

Post by Jim Eshelman »

An iconic Baltimore bridge critical to local traffic flow collapsed this morning when it was struck by a freight ship (the Dali out of Singapore carrying Danish cargo). Cars, trucks, and individuals were thrown into freezing water, including people who were working on the bridge at the time of the collision.

Seven people are believed lost in the river (search teams are looking for them). Two other injuries occurred, one minor and one critical. Baltimore's mayor called it "an unspeakable tragedy."

According to the ship's crew, they lost power and issued a Mayday before the collision.

Will this register as a structural collapse or a collision? (I suspect the latter, or a blend.) Historically, the few examples of structural collapse have emphasized Mars and Pluto angularities, a stark absence of benefics; Moon aspects to Uranus, Neptune, and Sun (and avoiding aspects to Venus and Jupiter); and Venus-Pluto, Jupiter-Saturn, Jupiter-Uranus, and other key aspects. (For example, the Capsolar below is quite the opposite of what we tend to see.)
