Burkino Faso Massacre

CNN today reports that over 600 people died and over 300 injured in just a few hours by an Al Qaeda massacre in August in the West African country of Burkino Faso. Many of the dead were women and children. This doubles the previous estimate of the number of deaths. This is "one of the deadliest single attacks in Africa in recent decades."

The people had been digging trenches around their town to defend it. Al Qaeda operatives rode in on motor cycles slaughtering them with gun fire, turning the trenches into mass graves.

The time is from a survivor: He was digging a trench when he heard gunfire at about 11 AM. Wikipedia says the attack was from 9 AM to 4 PM.
