Solar Fire settings?

Post by Arena »

Oct 04, 2014
Hey guys, I've been working with Solar Fire in the last few weeks and I went through the whole process that is listed in this forum, some tips and tricks. But in the process I somehow lost totally the EP and cannot see it anymore in any charts, no matter how much I try to get it back ... do you recommend asking for original settings back and then go through the process of settings again for sidereal?

Also I find it tedious that I can only open one chart at a time - isn't there a way to set Solar Fire to have open a few different charts at the same time?
I want to be able to see the original chart next to an SSR and LSR and sec. pr.

I can think of several reasons that can make this happen.

Going in order of simplicity...

First, check your "Displayed Points" File and make sure that EP is included.

Second, are you using colors? If your EP color is the same as the background color, it will be there but won't show. At least the symbol won't show, but there will be a longitude without a corresponding point.

Third, have you experimented with the wheels at all? Did you ever bring up a wheel, right click on it, and under "Displayed Points" select a file that's different from the default file in Step 1 above?

Hold down the Shift button and click on the bottom of the list. Or, hold down the Ctrl button and click on them to highlight the ones you want. SF seems Windows-compliant in the ways it selects and highlights using the Shift and Control buttons individually and together.

I can get more than one chart put into the calculated chart window from the files that way, but I can't get Solar Fire to display more than one chart.

Yes, I think you read Arena more carefully than I did.

As far as I know, this may be possible through the Pages, but I think that having several "View Chart" windows open is not possible.

I'm sure this probably isn't the only way to do it, but you can clone any chart in the Calculated Charts list by choosing the "Chart" option and selecting "Clone". A small cloned chart will appear, which can be resized using Windows features and moved to any location on the screen using the common Windows technique. The number of readable charts is limited only by the size of your monitor and the acuity of your eyesight. If you check the "Always on top" box the cloned chart(s) so marked will remain visible regardless of which window is currently open on your desktop--word processor, spreadsheet, social media page, etc.

Thanks a bunch
I'll try the clone option and check the EP as suggested.

Thank you rudy, but I still am not able to clone the chart like you describe here - there is no clone option in my "chart" option.
I have solarfire v. 7.0.1 - what is your version?

Right click.
Choose clone from the popup menu - it's the last item on the list.

I have version 8, and don't know if it's in version 7.

The manual for version 7 is at ftp://ftp.alabe.com/SF-Gold-manual.pdf and can be downloaded.

It's in the manual for 8, but not for 7. So you may not have the option.
