Obama The Great Compromiser

Obama has been much criticized by his progressive left and others as giving the opposition party most everything they ask for without much push back from him.
His desire to be buddy buddy with everyone has kinda backfired and has left him looking politically weak.
Anyway this actual or perceived weakness might be explained astrologically with an angular Moon in Taurus (birth and res.) along with angular Sun in Cancer are both feminine and receptive...more follower than strong leader as Mars and Sun constellations tend to be.
Also his natal locality Sun's influence would be stronger if it was on the MC instead of the IC
Venus, the planet of 'compromise' is of course exalted in Taurus emphasized by an angular Moon. Mars is in Leo normally a powerful placement for Mars, however it's weak middle-ground location (locality) and lack of paran aspects leaves Mars influence somewhat muted. Obama's great oratory skills are noted by Mercury's close opposition to Jupiter; would be even better if Jupiter was in Cancer it's exaltation instead of it's fall Capricorn.

Agreed. Cancer-Taurus tells most of the story all by itself. (We do need to give credit to his angular Uranus, though.)
And, during his entire time in office, he's been cursed with Neptune transiting his angles. His current SSR emphasizes Neptune in several ways. Among other things, this hasn't helped lessen his passivity.
The only prior Cancer Sun President was Herbert Hoover. No comment needed?
And Taurus Moons don't do much better. Foreground Moons among Presidents tend to mark men who came into office under exceedingly difficult conditions, and mostly never rose to the occassion: Grant, a magnificent general, had the task of reconstruction in his lap and failed miserably amidst weakness and graft. Buchanan probably had no realistic chance of preventing Civil War, and he fell rapidly to the low expectations of his term. McKinley was probably the strongest. Taft, Hoover, Polk, Benjamin Harrison... well, draw your own conclusion.
How about angular Sun? Definitely better. Lincoln, McKinley, and Wilson are a powerful trio. But the others include some pretty mild-mannered men. Eisenhowever and Grant were decisively succssful generals before becoming President, and there's even a football hero - Gerald Ford. So the underlying leadesrhip temperament is present, probably the charisma and force of character to direct a nation through difficult times. What we can't see just from the solar placement is whether this translates into successful leadership. (There have been quite a few Presidents with angular Suns. The ones I haven't mentioned include Martin Van Buren, John Tyler, Chester A. Arthur, William McKinley, and James Polk.)

Jim, Any difference you see concerning Obama's n.Sun on the LOC IC...would it not be much stronger on the MC or ASC...Inferior vs. superior angles?
Obama's LOC for Chicago bring his n. Jupiter/Mercury to The MC/IC. No wonder he was so successful there.
Obama's 2011 SSR took place in Chicago. Is that SSR & it's progressions valid for the year or does SSR need to be recalculated any new locality the native happens to be in?
If the native still has interests in a particular locality are those interests affected by the locality SSR even though he resides elsewhere?
Thanks for all your valuable input.
Mike

It would be some stronger, yes. But he does have Sun on an angle both natal and local - that's a double whallop that I think is at least as strong as a single occurrence of the Sun on a stronger angle.

That's really wide. For local angles I prefer 1°-2°, with a really faint effect out to maybe 5°. Jupiter is 7°22' from the MC in Chicago in mundo.

Both. Where it actually occurred is the 'natal' of the SSR. Where he then goes next is the 'local.' Same rules on that as for a birth chart. I think we're going to see the DC version show up the most, because that's where he's spending nearly all of his time. He's fortunate to have the Moon-Venus-Jupiter T-square effect of Chicago at all, but there is no much Neptunian influence on him that I think we'll mostly see the "lost in a fog, where was that White House men's room again?" effect of the DC SSR.

It's complicated, but... some. For example, if someone's parent dies "back home," this is still likely to register in the charts for where the person currently lives - because that's where the effect occurs. But they are likely to go "back home" for the funeral, and maybe psychologically dwell there for months, handling affairs from afar. The primary effect will be their current location, but you can't rule out that they are "living their lives in the other location" in all ways but physically.
