[Jupiter Sets at Dawn]

December 1, 2013, 7:20 AM EST, 40.879451,-73.922767, on the southbound tracks just north of the Spuyten Duyvil station in the Bronx, just north of Manhattan. Four people dead, 63 injured, 11 critically. It appears excessive speed on a curve was a factor. Four of five cars derailed along the banks of the Harlem River, which divides the Bronx from Manhattan Island. The crash woke people living near the tracks at least a mile away.

Besides the loss of life, this is going to be a major disruption of train service between the suburbs north of NYC and NYC. Passengers will have to take buses from Tarrytown to the White Plains station on the Harlem line, where they can catch trains to and from Grand Central Station.

This is the same line, and nearly the place where a garbage train derailed last July.

The Capsolar and Cansolar both do "well enough" for background - for example, they both have a foreground Mercury, and it starts to "get in trouble" in the Cansolar with the Mercury-Uranus-Pluto T-square foreground - but let's focus in more narrowly on the time of this particular incident.

MONTH: CAPLUNAR
Not yet involved in the event. Jupiter squares the MC, which opens the gates to a foreground mundane Venus-Pluto conjunction.

FORTNIGHT: CANLUNAR
The main feature is Mars square the Ascendant within 0°20', something we've seen pop up in other events the last two weeks. Uranus and Pluto, more widely foreground and in mutual square, round out some details.

WEEK: LIBLUNAR
The Venus-Jupiter opposition is within orb of square the horizon. Against this, Pluto is 4° from the MC, Uranus over 5° from the Ascendant, but the Moon 0°20' above the Descendant - the strongest planet easily. But it doesn't describe things. I'd have picked a very different event for Moon, Venus, and Jupiter angular, backed by Uranus and Pluto in the wings.

DAY: CAPSOLAR QUOTIDIAN
Ingress Neptune barely within 2° of the CapQ MC. Adequate but not exactly thrilling.

DAY: CANSOLAR TRANSITS & QUOTIDIAN
The Cansolar continues to have transiting Pluto 0°54' from the Descendant.

The CanQ EP is 0°46' from CanQ Saturn. That was the main trigger. (Toss in a barely angular CanQ Sun.)

HOUR: EVENT CHART
The accident occurred just after sunrise. Sun was 3° above the Ascendant, Mars 5° west of the MC. Their respective exact angularities were 7:05 AM and 7:04 AM, which makes me wonder what happened 15 minutes before the accident that might have been the real cause. (Just thinking aloud.)
