I recently began working at a bookstore and I have a good friendship with a coworker despite a huge gap in age. H** was born on July 14, 1956. First is his chart, than my chart, than the synastry.

Noticeable things about H** chart:

So H** has some key traits that would outline a literary and bookish person, certainly someone who owns a bookstore. His Sun and Moon are in Mercurial signs (Gemini and Virgo). His Mercury and Venus are comfortable in their ruling signs (Gemini and Taurus), yet Mars shares many fractious aspects in the chart with both luminaries and Venus. His Saturn (in Scorpio) and Neptune (in Libra) both have strong involvement in the chart with Jupiter and Pluto (in Leo).

So what does that say about H**? He is as mutable and Mercurial as one gets (intellectual, quick-witted, high-strung etc.) but his Venus softens this a bit with a gentle, permissive, forgiving nature. The Mars aspects give him a strong and restless drive in almost everything he does as he is very sprightly for a man of his years, and the strength of character to maintain perhaps the last independent religious bookstore in New York. Some people have "simple" characters where their planets point out character traits in one clear direction, others a bit more complex with planets pointing to different sets of traits but still complimenting each other. But H** character has three major parts: a Mercurial nature, a Venerial nature, and a conflicting Martial nature.

Our synastry is interesting because it involves the malefic planets (Mars and Saturn) and yet our relationship is very friendly without much trouble. Another interpretation is that we strengthen each other by working a lot together. And generally, we are best to each other when we have a lot of work to do, better than idle times, and he helps me as a mentor gain much needed experience at a job in a field I enjoy, giving me many important responsibilities.
