Demi-SLR 7/5/22

Post by Jim Eshelman »

July 5, 2022, 1:05:42 AM PDT. I'll be home.
Benefic = 223, Malefic = 268, Change = 204, Spotlight = 267
Dignity = 333, Indignity = 223

Impressions: No SSR themes echo. Malefics dominate, foretelling a hard fortnight. The chart is primarily a Mars-Pluto double transit to natal Neptune (plus natal Mars-Neptune), but also has a strong Sun-Sun square - perhaps meaning standing proud within the turbulence of the storm. In fact, another way to look at it is two Suns + two Marses.

NOTE: I've added back some of the Class 2 aspects (in a smaller font) based on recent experiences. These add a more positive tone on balance, given the two-way Sun-Jupiter.

t Pluto on Z -2°53'
r Mercury on Dsc -7°57'

t Mars on Asc -4°35'
r Neptune on Dsc -2°18
----------------------
r Sun on WP-a +0°16'
r Mars on Z +0°51'

t Sun on IC +3°18'
t Jupiter on Asc + 8°17'

-- t Sun sq. r Sun 0°47' M
-- t Pluto sq. r Neptune 1°19'
-- t Mars sq. r Neptune 2°17' M
-- t Mars-Pluto sq. 2°21'
--- t Mars op. r Mercury 3°22' M
--- t Pluto co. r Mars 3°44'
--- t Jupiter op. r Sun 4°11' M
--- t Sun-Jupiter sq. 4°59' M

-- r Mars-Neptune sq. 2°25'

NOTE: Pluto is opposite natal Jupiter-Uranus within a very few minutes, but they aren't foreground so I haven't included those aspects.

Interestingly, Pluto's angularity is so wide that, in just the seven miles across town to my office, it falls off - isn't a consideration - meaning that its aspects all fall away, too, leaving a Sun-Mars-Jupiter transiting trio foreground (a different feel), though natal Sun-Mars-Neptune still lead (natal Sun only 0°10' from the angle). - Mars-Pluto and Pluto-Neptune disappear. This should mean (for example) that those particular aspects aren't felt in circumstances occurring at work (and might also be a reminder that they aren't all that strong in the original chart either).

As a digression, today is my quarti-solar. I have no confidence in quartis as important charts (other than as a 10-day chart). Fortunately, if there is anything to it notwithstanding my skepticism, this should be a nice one. It occurred while I was at work today (still here) with Venus 1°21' from MC. Venus and Neptune aspect natal Moon in the foreground.

Of course, there is also a 3° Moon-Saturn mundane square in the immediate background.

The main event of this SLR month has been getting sick. There was a positive annual review with a small (but larger than usual) pay increase along the way, and a general sense of activity in the office picking up and things getting more hectic - not in a frantic way, in more of an exhilarating way (more under the demi than the first half).

But the main event was getting sick - though not seriously - especially because it has not fully left yet. There has been a general sense of saying just a little bit sick all the way through, of bronchial stuff not getting back to normal. The time frame is pretty much linked to these returns, and the right planets are all there, so I now hope that the new cycle will put this behind me.

There are some rough lunars coming up the rest of year, especially in August, and we may actually travel for at least one of them (at the end of August). Meanwhile... on to the next one.

SLR 7/17/22

Post by Jim Eshelman »

July 17, 2022, 3:05:56 PM PDT. It's a Sunday, so I've calculated it for home.
NEW APPROACH: Benefic = 9, Malefic = 6, Change = 9, Spotlight = 0 Dignity = 0, Indignity = 6, Personal Loss = 10
OLD APPROACH: Benefic = 145, Malefic = 244, Change = 202, Spotlight = 92 Dignity = 17, Indignity = 223

Impressions: No echoes of the SSR. The two most angular planets are benefics, but then joined with a close Saturn angularity and a general tone of distance or separation - the trio of Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto standing mostly at odds with the splendidly highlighted natal Venus. So, probably positive time in general with some frustrations and tensions along the way.

Saturn-Uranus usually brings push-pull tensions when it isn't compounded by other security-disrupting factors. Possibly this will be mostly a psychological effect, since there are not both partile aspects and close angularities. NOTE: Despite expecting Venus to prevail, malefics outscore benefics in the rankings above. Good test chart. - I've added Class 2 aspects in a smaller font for study purposes. - I'm also experimenting with a different approach to scaling and summarizing categories at the top.

Jim, you have the new approach defined well in the TMSA forum, but what planets define the personal loss #?

Mike, it's experimental and I'm leaning to thinking it's not right - but the current formula is the Venuses, the Saturns, and the Plutos (weighted with a 2/3 multiplier to treat them like two planet sets and make the numbers comparable).

OK, and I get the 2/3 factor to make it comparable to the other numbers, but like you I'm skeptical about. To get strict comparability with other measures, benefic and malefic should also be multipled by 2/3 since they are now three planet factors. Strictly two planets and two half planets, benefic being Ve + Ju + 1/2 Ur + 1/2 Ne and malefic Ma + Sa + 1/2 Ur + 1/2 Ne. (In all cases we are talking about both the radical and transiting planets)BTW for what it's worth, in otherwise neutral charts, it's been the tendency IMHO for Uranus to lean benefic (though stressful--most of us don't like change) but Neptune to lean malefic. Can't quantify it -- it's just a tendency, not reliable.

I think the personal loss effect requires aspects of Saturn and/or Pluto with Venus, which is not what is being grabbed here. Nonetheless, I'm watching it.

Post by Jim Eshelman »

For my experiment of seeing of lunars really take ONLY mundane aspects, here is how the current SLR looks different:

July 17, 2022, 3:05:56 PM PDT. Calculated for home.

r Pluto on MC -3°55'
r Venus on EP -0°17'
----------------------------
t Uranus on Dsc +0°50'
t Saturn on IC +2°20'
r Mercury on Asc +5°44'
r Saturn on Asc +9°58'

-- t Saturn-Uranus sq 1°30' M
-- t Saturn sq r Mercury 3°23' M
-- t Uranus sq r Pluto 4°45' M
-- t Uranus sq r Mercury 4°54' M
-- t Saturn op r Pluto 6°15' M

-- r Mercury-Saturn co 4°15' M

The natal ecliptical Venus-Pluto square is lost, along with Saturn's transit to Venus (while Saturn-Pluto becomes so wide as to barely consider). Natal Mercury-Saturn is twice as wide. That makes the chart kinder. I still get the exactly angular Venus itself, but just lose its affliction. The chart, therefore is a bit more sterile and mechanical, but happier. (Hey, I already went to a fancy party - for our office - which is not typical of me in recent years.)

Demi-SLR 8/1/22

Post by Jim Eshelman »

August 1, 2022, 6:42:19 AM PDT. I'll be halfway to work, so calculating for the office.
NEWE: Benefic = 1, Malefic = 10, Change = 2, Spotlight = 5
OLD: Benefic = 111, Malefic = 288, Change = 227, Spotlight = 164

Impressions: No clear echoes of the SSR other than the Mercury-Uranus theme (which is here compounded with much more). The chart is overall malefic, led by transiting Sun square natal Saturn (partile), both exactly angular. Both transiting benefics are exactly cadent. Fortunately, I don't drive, because this is a clear setup for an auto accident.

This is an "outstanding return," marked by the partile transiting Sun square natal Saturn exactly on angles.

The chart will be interesting to observe because, again, we find enormously powerful, close, dramatic aspects, but only at the periphery of the foreground. The Sun-to-Saturn, as part of natal Mercury-Saturn, is the strongest feature, but there is a peripherally background T-square of (Mercury opposite Saturn) square (Mars conjunct Uranus) - with natal Pluto in the mix. The Mercury-Mars-Uranus trio give the three closest aspects. All of the aspects are harsh or alarming.

Note 7/30: That word "alarming' triggered something in my mind. At the office, we have a rapidly failing UPS (uninterrupted power supply) in our network center. It failed three times yesterday and I jury-rigged a way to keep it going, barring a problem with the entire building's power grid. When it fails, there are literal and figurative alarms. This might mean that the main incidents of the next two weeks involve work incidents, not personal matters.

t Uranus on Z -2°39'
r Pluto on Asc -8°34'

:) Yes, I've always heard it said "Jerry-rig." One could argue that this is the correct pronunciation (though the dictionary wouldn't agree).

It's not actually about rigging a jury (as in a court case). It's a sailor's term. It seems, though, that the etymology is unknown. My private theory (meaning: I made it up!) is that since "jury" comes from a Latin root meaning "to swear" (since they have to be sworn in), that "jury-rig" means that sailors do a lot of swearing when they have to throw a fix together from insufficient parts at the last minute.

NEW: Benefic=6 Malefic=4 Change=5 Spotlight=5 Dignity=5 Indignity=3 Shifting Conditions=5

Impressions: (No SSR echoes.) Both transiting benefics are in the immediate background and a strong Sun-Saturn aspect again catches the eye first; yet the three most angular planets are two benefics and Sun. Mars-Uranus to Venus is the closest aspect structure. The most theoretically interesting feature of the foreground mundane Sun-Saturn-Sedna T-square, with Sedna the most angular planet.

The new SLR has indeed been decisively benefic-leaning (meaning that the new way of scaling planets is better than the old way). The basic uncertainty in this was whether the closest foreground aspects or the closest foreground angularities would be stronger: While both have been operative, the angularities have definitely been stronger of the two.

Specifically, the closest angularities are transiting Uranus (partile to EP) backed by transiting Sun and natal Venus. Along with this is a moderately foreground transiting Saturn, though the foreground benefics outweigh and Sun-Uranus (not the closest aspect) has the most vivid feel. (Perhaps Uranus opposite natal Venus, the closest aspect, is part of the feeling I'm attributing to Sun-Uranus.) On the other hand, the aspect tying for closest that seems overall dominant in the chart (Sun opposite Saturn) isn't the most foreground.

The Sun-Saturn's strongest effects have been: Following my recent annual physical, I've had extra doctor appointments (expected but tedious) in short order. A project at work has required far more attention plus dealing with recalcitrant vendors than I had expected. I've had a few other things that have needed additional attention and have seemed intrusive and dragging me away from my main priorities.

The overall tone, though, has been upbeat, with several discoveries but more of a pleasant, pleasurable sort rather than mental; for example, Marion and I have been experimenting with a new meal prep service that has been surprisingly good. Just before the demi, we're out on a three day road trip, mostly to have my Demi-SLR setup under an unafflicted natal Venus 0°02' from an angle instead of a transiting Venus-Saturn exact opposition exactly angular in LA - but this time we actually have some places to go that should be a lot of fun: First to Hoover Dam where Marion's SLR will have transiting Jupiter 0°00' from an angle, and then to southeast Arizona near Willcox, the one AVA-designated wine area in Arizona (to contrast our substantial experience with northern Arizona wineries). On a "Saturn isn't particularly leading," I had one extra-long workday (13 hours on a Saturday) that will provide the equivalent of about two days of extra pay in the next check.

I have no idea what the Sedna involvement is; but the Sun-Uranus and Venus-Uranus vs. Sun-Saturn is quite clear.

Demi-SLR 8/28/22

Post by Jim Eshelman »

August 28, 2022, 12:30:18 PM PDT. It's a Sunday, so calculating for home.
Benefic = 11, Malefic = 10, Change = 10, Spotlight = 3, Dignity = 3, Indignity = 7
Personal Loss = 13

Impressions: (No SSR echoes.) This demi-lunar is morbidly tragic (so we will be travelling for his one). A 0°03' Venus-Saturn opposition falls within 0°09' of angles with natal Pluto on MC and malefics supporting the overall tone. Strangely, the Venus-Saturn seems concentrated on a Mercury matter. I haven't a clue what this might be, and I hope the very positive SSR overrides what this could be. It surely signals a hard loss. If I remained home, it would be:

r Venus on Asc -8°23'
t Sun on MC -6°32'
t Mars on WP-a -1°53'

r Pluto on MC -1°39'
---------------------------
t Venus on Z +0°05'
t Saturn on N +0°09''

t Uranus on Dsc +2°15
r Mercury on Asc +7°47'

-- t Venus-Saturn op. 0°03'
-- -- -- t Venus sq. r Mercury 0°03' M

-- -- -- t Saturn sq. r Mercury 0°07' M
-- t Sun-Mars sq. 0°39'

-- t Sun sq. r Venus 1°51' M
-- t Saturn-Uranus sq. 1°57'
-- -- -- t Venus-Uranus sq. 2°00'

-- r Venus-Pluto sq. 0°13'

NOTE: Sedna is moderately foreground, bringing her years-long transits to natal Venus-Pluto back into focus.

We are targeting San Simon, AZ (east of Willcox, near the New Mexico border) as part of the long-planned exploration of the southern Arizona wine country (we've explored the north several times). In addition to relocating this demi, I'm adding the insurance policy of making sure Marion has an outstandingly positive month: Her new SLR for LA would be quietly positive, with Jupiter several degrees from IC; but we're planning to put Jupiter 0°01' from IC for the minute it sets up. - For San Simon, AZ, my Demi-SLR will look like this:

Benefic = 7, Malefic = 3, Change = 3, Spotlight = 3, Dignity = 3, Indignity = 0 Sex = 7

Impressions: (No SSR echoes.) An ultimately positive chart of pleasure and happiness, Indications of conflict are biased toward being signals of strength.

t Mars on Dsc -4°56'
r Venus on Asc -0°02'
--------------------------
t Sun on MC +3°16'
r Pluto on MC +6°56'

t Sun-Mars sq. 0°39'
r Venus-Pluto sq 0°13'

NOTE: Transiting Sedna is 4° off Descendant, giving some attention to its almost 3° aspects to natal Venus-Pluto.

That is certainly the hope :) It should be a good few days away with her immediate return having Jupiter 0°01' from an angle and mine having Venus 0°02' off. We'll return to my having the really rough angles in LA, but it the positive ones to compete with it.

I first learned how to relocate SLRs with the DOS program Nova back in the early nineties. This was soon after I realized the importance of SLR angles. It took me so long to hunt down the good locations with Nova, but I had a blast experiencing their magic. :)

It's much easier with SF, provided you only need transiting planets. I've proposed a location report for TMSA that I think will knock your socks off. It includes the precessed natal positions as well as the transiting, includes EP-WP axis as well, and would make it easy to zero in on a location within seconds (or a few minute in the slowest case).

Marion's SLR in 20 minutes: We're parked at the end of a dirt road about 10 miles west of Blythe, AZ at 33N36'37", 114W45'30". Jupiter will be 01' from IC with natal Jupiter moderately angular (and the most foreground natal planet).

This, of course, is my insurance policy en route to San Simon, AZ for my demi-SLR tomorrow. At least when I return home, I know the Venus-Saturn won't be about her.

8-) Interesting. Let me know if the Venus-Saturn is just about a "sobering down" effect getting back home or if you experience another type Venus-Saturn effect with this return chart.

In theory, I would have both the San Simon, AZ and LA returns co-existing with slight preference for where it actually sets up (San Simon).

We shall see, of course. Meanwhile, after listening to Three Dog Night across the Mojave, we're now listening to Travelling Willburies across Arizona.

The DSLR looks rather favorable indeed. Three Dog Night inevitably brings up memories of Patty, who I might well name the (tragic) love of my life in a universe where Terry were never born. She had been a roadie for Three Dog Night in the days before I met her. I can't play Joy to the World (Jeremiah was a bullfrog ...) without thinking of her. Such bittersweet memories. The stars grant this trip have all the sweetness and more and not a single drop of bitterness. You and Marion are an inspiration to many of us.

SLR 9/10/22

Post by Jim Eshelman »

September 10, 2022, 10:59:13 AM PDT. Calculated for home.
Benefic = 7, Malefic = 8, Change = 7, Spotlight = 0, Dignity = 0, Indignity = 8

It's the last full SLR of the birthday year.

Impressions: (Echoes the SSR Mercury-Uranus theme somewhat.) Uranus takes the lead, and promises excitement and (with Mercury) probably learning something new and interesting. But with two Saturns foreground, it's harder to think of this as positive. It could indeed be a research period - something that challenges my Mercury-Saturn skills - but transiting Saturn's square looks like its a frustrated time (something like failing an exam). I doubt this is too big a deal - probably me buried in something - but it is correct to label it as malefic-dominated.

t Uranus on WP 0°00'

r Saturn on Asc +3°27'

Re: JAE SLRs & Demi-SLRs 2021-22

hmmm
struck me as a possible good time to wash your windows (insides and out) and clean the screens and window sills as we head into fall and you head into your new SSR.
All human beings have boring mundane tasks of cleaning ourselves and our habitats that occur at different seasons.
Housework is a very Saturnian act, and many people forget how dirty our windows get, especially on the outside.
Hope your remaining 2021 SSR is illuminating and helps you build up into a fantastic 2022!

We've been thinking about emptying a storage unit we've had for 7 to 8 years (which will free a lot of money every month). So far, there have been just enough obstacles to keep delaying this. I do have and now it's not likely to happen until the second half of the month (still under this SLR but after the demi).

Demi-SLR 9/24/22

Post by Jim Eshelman »

September 24, 2022, 7:39:21 PM PDT. Calculated for home.
Benefic = 1, Malefic = 7, Change = 1, Spotlight = 5, Dignity = 6, Indignity = 3

Impressions: (No SSR echoes.) Only natal planets are closely foreground, and they aren't my most pleasant; but the return also brings Pluto's transit to my Mars-Neptune: Is this volatilizing or cleansing? In any case, I seem to be standing strong and centered through it.

r Mercury on Dsc -8°49'
t Pluto on Z -2°47'

r Neptune on Dsc -3°08'

t Jupiter on Asc +9°21'

The natal Sun, Mars, and Neptune foreground were very nearly me driving myself sick - then managing not to. Between the 38-hour workday last weekend, to the two days of almost non-stop loading and unloading boxes to empty the storage unit, to adding a new Covid booster to the mix, I've kept pushing myself to get stuff done and finished more or less regardless of the consequences and fully knowing I could be hurting myself (just a little).

Clearly more malefic than benefic (it was hard!), yet dignity instead of indignity - and definitely in the spotlight at work and elsewhere. The summaries were exactly right.

Not a bad way to close the year.
