Death toll and damages still to be assessed (and, as of this writing, are substantially still to occur). This storm developed incredibly fast, accelerating between Category 3 and 5 repeatedly, and may still continue to fluctuate before it hits Florida (perhaps tomorrow). Peak winds thus far were 185 mph. (Of Atlantic hurricanes, only Hurricane Allen in 1980 surpassed this, with 305 mph winds.)

FINAL FIGURES 2/18: 66 direct and 80 indirect deaths. Damages in excess of $64.1 billion. Winds maxed at about 185 mph. Irma was the strongest storm ever observed in the open Atlantic.

It nearly eradicated Barbuda, and has caused catastrophic damage elsewhere across the eastern Caribbean.

I was hoping for a more exact timing of the first U.S. landfall, but that is more for academic purposes. For our analytic purposes, it doesn't matter much. Here are the available data for first U.S. landfall:
