Angela Merkel, leader of the free world

Angela Merkel was just elected to an unprecedented fourth term as German chancellor. She is on a high arc this year: With the current US President's dereliction of the historic role as "leader of the free world," Merkel has stepped into it, asserting that if America doesn't want its historic leadership role, the world will go on without it.

She was born July 17, 1954, in Hamburg, Germany. A biography gives "shortly after 6 PM." The round 6 PM hour gives Neptune culminating exactly square Uranus (the two connected closely to her Sun), and a widely rising Mars. Her closest aspects are Sun-Uranus-Neptune, and Mercury conjunct Jupiter.

Her current SSR and SLR aren't very impressive for her impressive win and continuing strength. It's thin enough that it throws some doubt in my mind about the biographical report of a time.

One support for 6 PM is that Jupiter presently conjoin her Berlin MC, 1° Libra (actually, a Jupiter-Uranus opposition). But Saturn simultaneously conjoins her Berlin IC. It's pretty dynamic, but also pretty mixed.

Although PM Merkel was reelected for a fourth term, a bunch of right-wingers were also elected, enough so she will have to form a government with them. The right wingers want to impose policies to punish people for being poor or sick, block immigration so there won't be anybody to work in factories and give tax breaks to the rich that when put into practice previously, nearly tanked Germany's economy. So while her election was a victory, I doubt it feels much like one.

Yes, I agree about her birth time, it seems right.
Merkel's party lost considerably (about 15%) but nonetheless remains Germany's largest party.

A lot of Merkel's chart - her angularities, Sun placement and aspects, and Mercury aspects - made way more sense once I learned that her pre-politics life was as a research physicist, with a doctorate in quantum chemistry. She has always been conservative-leaning. Where I do not like much in her politics, I admire her accomplishments and her integrity. She is easily the most important political figure in German history since it's reunification, and easily the strongest leadership force in the EU.

In theory, she has to be one of the best examples of a Uranus-Neptune aspect - 0°06 wide, angular, and in near-partile hard contact with Sun. She should be an excellent example to study for this aspect, perhaps disclosing some insights into the aspect beyond the usual basics.
