This seemed an appropriate night to post this analysis...
November 11, 1864, hour unknown, Atlanta, GA
In one of the most important Union crusades through the south during the Civil War, General William T. Sherman ordered the burning to the ground of Atlanta, Georgia on November 11, 1864,following its decisive military defeat a couple of months earlier. It began burning that day or the next, and the fire was still going strong the afternoon of the 15th. (NB There is uncertainty about the burning, but these appears to be the most accepted data. The fiercest indicators, though, were four days later, e.g., CanQ MC conj. s Mars.)
