by Jim Eshelman
Moon-Sun
Energetic, dynamic, terrific drive, forceful. Psychic vitality, a mental-emotional attitude biased toward success. At home with power. Intense desire in whatever they undertake. High vitality (unless the luminaries are afflicted). Sexual desires also particularly strong, passionate, though often narcissistic. Possible vanity, self-exaltation, and obstinacy.
Moon-Mercury
Intellect fused with the emotions, especially with subconscious patterns; thus, quick at assessment, intuitive, strategic (cagey, deceptive). Personality dominated by intellect & nervous system. Tremendous mental output & capacity to absorb knowledge (apt at languages, good memory). Can seem ‘all business’ in emotional matters & emotionally stubborn in factual ones: Under duress, “reasonableness” competes with reactive emotion.
Moon-Venus
Attractive, charming; much sexual charisma. Gracious (ingratiating), affectionate, sensual. Fond of social niceties. High frustration tolerance. (Passive-dependent, moody, can be blindsided by strong feelings, often preoccupied with whether they are liked.)
Moon-Mars
Active & reactive, temperamental, thinks & acts rapidly. Detests idleness, rarely still. Driven, competent, ambitious. Impatient, acerbic, irritable. Too frank & sharp-tongued (hence friction in close relationships). Needs physical, emotional, & mental “room to breathe” (little domestic instinct). Substance abuse not uncommon. Sexual needs strong, almost irrepressible (the women are often real sexual firecrackers, notable for the speed and intensity of their climaxes).
Moon-Jupiter
Ambitious, desires success, aspires to take the lead. A natural ‘host,’ likes to play ringmaster in all life areas including in social & sexual hospitality. Usually good-humored, entertaining, kind, generous. Drawn to quality, desires only the best (things & circumstances) for self & loved ones. Strong beliefs (often religious or patriotic intensity, moralistic, judgmental). Social elitism (possible feigned superiority, aristocratic conceit).
Moon-Saturn
Proud, self-made. Dynamic, hardworking, persistent, self-driving. Encourages growth in others (expects them to do something worthy of their abilities). Usually emotionally reserved, private. Definite tendency (often unconscious) to seek total control of situations & relationships. Parent-themed issues (nourishment-deprivation, etc.) to work through. Judgmental (intolerant). Can be pessimistic, distrustful, little self-confidence, passive-aggressive, feeling inferior, anxious, depressed. Many enter religious or social work for mixed motives of service, self-immolation, and seeking control.
Moon-Uranus
A specie of genius (intellectually rebellious, roving, curious, investigative) is bursting to express itself – not wholly comfortable accepting outside guidance, often wondering why others don’t recognize its nature. Inquisitive, original, futuristic, seeking novelty & needing variety (“will try anything twice”). Free-spirited: psychologically lives outside of convention; but subject to tensions and stiffness from emotional stress.
Moon-Neptune
Sensitive – often too much! Tunes into others on an emotional (psychic?) level: can be deeply understanding, genuinely sympathetic, but also emotionally (psychically) vulnerable, easily wounded, with abiding fears of rejection. Self-defense through avoidance (non-confrontation) & slamming shut senses & good sense. When wounded, withdraws & introverts (often with excessive rumination, imagination working overtime, worry, moodiness). Drawn to the imaginative, surrealistic, and creative. Genius, if present, coexists with deeply, visibly disturbed character.
Moon-Pluto
Bold & forthright, questioning & challenging, maverick & alien; independent, “marching to a different drummer,” resisting authority. Avoids habitual conformity (rebellious?); resists conventional conditioning and being made to concur with others’ values and codes. Restless, unwilling to be still for long, can uproot or take to the road on little notice. Deeply inquiring into existential mysteries, often igniting remarkable intuitive insights.

Sun-Mercury
Resourceful, knack for organization, likely will do well in the business world, effectively self-expressive. One’s ideas are (unconsciously?) equated with the ego, so altering an opinion may feel like compromising oneself. Intellectual pride, stubbornness. Strong need to identify oneself with rationality, to affirm one’s sanity and reasonableness.
Sun-Venus
Charming, gentle, fine companions. Keen sense of friendship and natural affection. Graceful. Marked aesthetic appreciation (if not artistic talents). Most comfortable in marriage or similar relationship. (A little vain?)
Sun-Mars
Action, drive, accomplishment, vitality, courage. Restless, forthright, direct (perhaps hasty, impatient, temperamental, low frustration tolerance). Strong physical aggression (for business, sex, etc.) – women especially are sexually voracious. Industrious, instinctively leads or commands, thus often promoted.
Sun-Jupiter
Generous, kind, warm, amiable, upbeat, tolerant. Visible self-confidence. Strong need for acceptance and friendship. A general dislike of problems (seems to float through life with amazingly little care for circumstances). Lucky: confident the universe will bail them out, problems usually resolve remarkably easily, but has a hard time persevering against real adversity when it finally strikes. (Extravagant, prodigal, loves leisure, overly reliant on luck.) Mind is philosophical or religious.
Sun-Saturn
Effective survivors, self-sufficient, hardworking, accomplishing. Used to hard work, few luxuries; preferring private, modest accommodations. Not always good control on strong impulses, but generally very good control of small & medium-sized ones. Authority (likely paternal) issues to overcome. Serious; enjoy deep subjects; yet few have so good a sense of humor! Childhood hardships common, circumstances force early maturation.
Sun-Uranus
Go their own way, unapologetically following their own paths & persuaded that they’re a “special case.” Resourceful, stimulating, but easily bored (in need of frequent stimulation). Love of freedom: bow to no authority but themselves. Progressive, future-oriented, uninhibited by convention. Adept at creative problem solving. Self-perspective usually founded in objectivity.
Sun-Neptune
Self-view is unrealistic or disproportionate (excessively poor or grand). Nurtures an air of secrecy or mystery. Love of drama, music, fantasy, mysticism, general surrealism. Active imaginations. Potential to move and inspire others if they acquire focus & perseverance. Sensitive to ambient physical & emotional impressions; exaggerates the “feeling tone” of a time & place.
Sun-Pluto
A “law unto themselves,” “the exception to the rule.” Little respect for arbitrary expectations. Antiauthoritarian, needs to be free from arbitrary or incompetent control. Comfortable as “outsider” or “congenial bad boy.” Often seems aloof, unresponsive, but rarely harsh; usually kind, “live and let live.”

Mercury-Venus
Gracious expression, charmer, persuasive, maybe even a “sweet talker.” Light-hearted, pleasant. Delights in learning (learns easily). Probably a happy childhood; retains a playful, childlike sense, a charm of immaturity.
Mercury-Mars
Mind is high-powered, quick, dynamic, strategic. Physical and mental responses are both fast. Forthright, candid, speaks directly, independent of thought, enjoys a good argument (mental/verbal competition). Predominantly a creative type. Quick wit, edgy sense of humor. Talent with hands. Prone to irritability, nervous frustration, fault-finding, obstinacy, opinionation. High vulnerability to addiction.
Mercury-Jupiter
Love of ideas and learning. Easy “way with words,” comfortable speaking, reassuring in speech and manner. Well-formed speech has marks of a good education (whether true or not). Good-tempered, kind; may seem shallower than they are. Optimistic, religious-style thinking, e.g., “gambler’s roll” (don’t disturb their “hope & vision” with contradictory facts!). Good business potential (perhaps from raw luck more than skill) and always looking for the next opportunity or lucky break. Poorly suited to fixed schedule or routine.
Mercury-Saturn
Organizes and formats information in orderly arrangements. (Often blazingly quick thinkers once the framework is established.) Methodical, logical, often routinized thinking processes. Skeptical, scrutinizing (distrustful). Obstinate in the absence of new evidence. Hesitant until oriented, then decisive, e.g., learning starts slowly, then catch up quickly. Gifted with considerable mental power, but easily discouraged (doubting). Treats life seriously. Needs to learn how to play.
Mercury-Uranus
Independent thinker. Curiosity and investigative spirit in most things. Mind unfettered by formality and standards, solves problems and integrates data more intuitively. Rejects linearity, lacks rigor in learning. Many interests, diverse, often unusual (including astrology or occultism). Speech engages others’ attention, usually has something interesting to say; challenges convention or authority, dares to speak despite consequences. Gentle rebellious behavior (“bad boy/girl”) seems rooted in, “Don’t tell me how to think.” Socially odd, but not ostracized for it.
Mercury-Neptune
Hyper-responsive to environment and perceptions, extreme sensitivity to sensory impressions (may include psychism). Magnifies trivialities, fixates on particulars (often perfectionists); thus, often uncanny memories. Loves puzzle- or problem-solving, often in fantasy modelling; gets much pleasure and psychological relief from fantasied problem solving. However, commonly avoids own real problems by obsessing over fantasy problems. Dreamers, storytellers, can enthuse-enroll others and convince someone of almost anything. Many adapt readily to systematized thought-modes of math and science.
Mercury-Pluto
Thinking is atypical, unbeholden to convention, outlier. Probing, investigative, thinks deeply about things. Mind may skirt the edge of normalcy (may slip off). Forthright, candid (needs authentic communication); can alienate with words (challenging, confrontational). Excitable about inquiries & new ideas (enthusiasm; burnout?). Impatient (irritated by obstacles, poor frustration tolerance). Instinct for abstract mathematics (great composers, chess players, physicists).
Venus-Mars
Passion (in all senses), feels powerfully about things. Strong sexual passions mature early, continue late, rarely encumbered by too many conditions. Broadly fun-loving, socially active, loves romance: interesting, likable, sociable, horny people. Relationships, often picked for ferocity, easily hit conflict, strain, or burnout. (More likely homicidal than suicidal.)
Venus-Jupiter
Fundamentally social creatures. Warm, friendly, giving, hospitable, gracious (reigns over social events). Nearly always liked (great need to be liked, desires positive attention and appreciation more than most, usually gets it). At home in a fine lifestyle (or as celebrity, aristocrat, etc.). Indulgent in all oral pleasures, e.g., preparing and eating fine food. Usually has an easier time through life despite sometimes harsh starts (experience unusual luck or patronage), usually partner well. Inclination to extravagance, possible “spoiled brat” attitude (risk of mild narcissism).
Venus-Saturn
Work, duty, devotion give especial pleasure. Various restrictions (even hardships) in love. Work (with an eye to service) is inherently gratifying; ordinary pleasures may be delayed or sacrificed for responsibilities. Many seem comfortable alone (unpartnered), though there is rarely any sexual restraint (often quite the opposite). Childhood hardship or deprivation often exists (physical or emotional) that shapes adult patterns; many move far from their birthplace to restart their lives. Sober, responsible. Willing to pragmatically sacrifice (even sellout) whatever they need to, for something more important to them.
Venus-Uranus
Pleasure drives are free of social convention or taboo, allowing enjoyment from a wide variety of social and sexual experiences. They approach friendship, love, sex, and other pleasure on their own terms, with a deep instinct for flexibility and freedom from artificial constraint. Socially popular, friendly, engaging, and well-liked, in response to their lightly flirtatious, genial, roguish style. (Their social “character” often masks underlying innocence and vulnerability.) Often requires distance from intimacy or depersonalizes affection, which can strain conventional pairings. Usually optimistic for society’s future with a deep instinct toward a less Puritanical, more open social fabric.
Venus-Neptune
Idealistic, future-looking, longs to be enchanted. Wants things perfect. Can become jaded, disillusioned, and cynical from repeated hurtful betrayals. Emotions run strong. Most sees beauty in people and things, thus has blind spots (especially in romance). Trusting, naturally confident of others’ goodness (poor discrimination in selecting friends). Good-hearted, caretakes others, devoted friends, romantic, humanitarian. Natural people-readers (when not personally involved), natural psychologists.
Venus-Pluto
“All or nothing” emotional intensity instinctively rejects others’ (moral and other) arbitrary values on love, sex, art. Typically has few intimates, and those of unfiltered intensity. Halfway measures are not enough; in human connection, the feeling is, “go cosmic, or go home.” Those expressing the ALL mode seek deep, penetrating connections (sometimes overwhelming intimates, sometimes inadvertently challenging social codes). Those in the NOTHING mode may choose it innocently or withdraw from people in response to repeated rebuke and ostracism. For both, sexual development may come late, as adolescent social rituals seem perplexingly arbitrary. Either may experience eruptive trouble in relationships. Either, by their intensity, can be commandingly charismatic.
Mars-Jupiter
Exalts strength, competition, and conquest with a zest for living. Common for successful competitive athletes; in most others, it shows vitality and enthusiasm for bringing an ever-improving “personal best.” Confidence in their own strength adds impermanence to any defeats. Morally if not physically courageous. Enterprising, resourceful. Sexually ardent, lusty, eager, popular, on the hunt. “Money to burn” (generous or extravagant; rarely holds onto cash for long; seems confident in the stream of resources). Aggressive in their beliefs, evangelical in their lives (irrepressible enthusiasts, missionaries, barnstormers of doctrine or other interests).
Mars-Saturn
Struggle marks these lives, sometimes from early (physical or psychological) hardship, sometimes from prejudice. Some (activists) struggle for something, others struggle only against. All are hardened, tough survivors, self-sufficient, maneuvering for control, who seem to make everything harder than necessary. Three typical types are those who (1) accept the hardship and focus most on “getting through”; (2) act meek, frail, gentle, inoffensive; (3) overcompensate as bullies, pushing around those weaker than them. Suppressive experiences leave feelings of weakness, shame, and inadequacy they ultimately need to heal. Conflicts especially with father-authority equivalencies. Most are serious and reserved, cautious about enthusiasms.
Mars-Uranus
Uncompromisingly individualist (but rarely ungraciously so). Bold, often stand out as highly distinctive characters in their circles. Natural rebel, challenges prevailing thinking, brutally honest. Always into something new, often offbeat. Takes risks psychologically (sometimes physically). Industrious, resourceful, shows initiative. Mentally quick, not necessarily intellectual; knack for astute assessment of situations, analytical, mechanical instincts. Sexually uninhibited, enthusiastic (lifestyle may challenge social standards; actions may challenge the world to try to stop them). Trusts own instincts more than outside advice.
Mars-Neptune
Zealous enthusiasm for interests and convictions (obsessive, concentrated). Inflamed imagination and emotion, thrives amidst stirred passion and high drama. Often great stamina for long-term vision (admits mistakes slowly). Surges into temptation, requires quick gratification of desires (usually gets it). Enormous psychic power fascinates and moves minds and reality (often seeks uncompromising control, may have delusions of infallibility). Dramatic aggressions (frustration triggers unresolved anger). Sexually magnetic (yet wrestles with sexual demons and doubts). [High dopamine levels and dopamine-driven behavior best summarize this aspect.]
Mars-Pluto
Normally well-mannered, congenial, even docile behavior sits atop a stockpile of explosive force. It may be (1) suppressed, blocked personal power, (2) owned, disciplined, available personal power, or (3) pathological, brutal, destructive power. (Health in this is reflected in how freely appropriate anger is expressed.) Must express this enormous force somehow (especially physical force), e.g., (1) directly, (2) attracting violence, or (3) eruptive health crises. Sexual energies explosive or poured into driven work. Vulnerable to burnout. Sensitive to pressure or coercion; pot-stirrers, resistant to outside control, defiant of arbitrary restrictions; willing to live “outside the norm” on social patterning. In a productive, on-track life: a mark of genius and distinctive creativity, acutely alive with a quiet energy; the others are trouble, can’t seem to avoid breaking or upsetting something.

Jupiter-Saturn
Practical, sensible (especially with finances). Responsible, conscientious, determined. Courageous, effective survivors; rarely halted by adversity. Patient hard work (earning one's place, success through industry) brings the most reliable rewards. Balances gain & loss: what can be won from losing, what it costs to win (cf. politics, finance; making lemonade from lemons). Attuned to legacy, heritage, tradition. Cornerstones of their families or circles. Orthodoxies draw their strong allegiance or opposition (the most creative become baselines of new orthodoxies).
Jupiter-Uranus
Minds interested in and well-suited to science, philosophical inquiry, and self-inquiry (knack for astrology). Success through unlikely paths (likely to succeed in life and distinguish themselves; thought leaders). Committed to progress, instinct for exceptionalism. Ingenuity, insight (sees outside usual maps, pathways, and systems; thinks on a broader scale). Respectful while unbeholden to artificial rank, class, or caste (it's unimportant to them); gently resists authority (conflict with authority), speaks truth to power, stands against injustice, egalitarian (social activist).
Jupiter-Neptune
Idealist (social idealist), dreams of "something better" (impressionable; desires worthy idols). Unreasoned optimism, faith (drawn to "too good to be true"). Generous (excessively? unwisely?). Compassionate, humanitarian. Conviction we thrive better together: cohesive, collective, community-building. Works best from a "big picture" (moving pieces within it). Forges a distinctive worldview (a window on reality to share). Entertainment (actor, filmmaker, music, literature). Religious, spiritual, mystical interests. Impractical (unrealistic, fantasy) relationship to money (speculation).
Jupiter-Pluto
Thrives being controversial within their (social or political) circles. Strong desire to contribute. Feels unbound by precedent. Unapologetic genuineness + commitment to community (family, group, tribe); social outlier but not aloof. Controversial, appears rebellious against contemporary structures (social, intellectual, political). May hunger to "be something," especially seen, accepted, affirmed by others. Self-improvement indifferent to the rules. Success and prosperity fluctuate (roller-coaster), may not last; may overestimate own importance or standing.
Saturn-Uranus
Well-developed autonomy, firmly defended; self-willed (acting out). Resists persuasion: navigates life and makes decisions on own terms (cantankerous obstinacy but not necessarily confrontational about it). Hard to pigeon-hole, thinks and acts outside of stereotypes. Need to "find their own word" and give it voice. Much of their life is about "holding it together" (some succeed, some don't).
Saturn-Neptune
Bridges the practical & material with the idealistic & immaterial. (Most bridge it well.) Can render a vision concrete and believable, make something solid from an idea (creativity realized, plans executed; visual and musical artists, counselors, problem solvers). Frequently indifferent to material security. Devotion, loyalty (possible intrigue, deception, suspicion, betrayal). Many withdraw, enter seclusion, asylum, exile. Chronic (disabling?) physical or psychological afflictions (can include dark, troubled states, depression, disappointment, distrust, struggling with demons).
Saturn-Pluto
"Runs their own show," resists outside control. Even as an employee, wants autonomy. Lone wolf: solitary path comes naturally, partnership requires choice & effort. Rejects arbitrary expectations. Survivors: Great strength, self-reliance, & persistence in the face of hardship (stubborn, entrenched; pays the necessary price). Conscientious. Tough as nails (especially the women) but can become hard, cut-off, alienated. By taking everything on themselves, can feel they carry the world's weight. (Obsessive-compulsive.)
Uranus-Neptune
Wanderlust, curious explorer, drawn to peer or push past horizons. Colliding realities & social revision impact life. Rules haven't been discovered for one's life (maps not yet drawn, "nobody knows what my life is like"). Mythic, ritualistic sense of one's position in the universal scheme (need to discern one's role). Knows that life & reality are more mystical & inscrutable (or just plain weird!) than anyone ever said. High-strung, sensitive, easily agitated.
Uranus-Pluto
Feels unbound by precedent, custom, convention, or authority: willing to ignore, challenge, or forcibly reject them. Open to new ways, wider horizons; yet rarely disruptive without immediate cause. Physically restless, impatient (possibly frustrated, angry). Authenticity & creative self-expression arise best from solitude (vacuum). In youth, often seem directionless; this resolves as they find their center of gravity (especially after age 30).
Neptune-Pluto
Leaders display capacity & desire to impose a worldview (scientific, political, literary). More typically, uncertainty about the world, desire for certainty (for the world to be a particular way). Thinking in absolutes, adopts & holds a worldview, rejects its competitors, regards things a certain way & not other. (Suspicion, bigotry, doctrinal narrowness, threatened by things becoming other than how they've been.)
Principles of Aspects

by Jim Eshelman
This summary enables me to do something I've occasionally thought of doing: composing my own root-expression summaries or Principles of each aspect. (Ebertin' Principles are fine enough, but often just off the mark or obscure.) I've done this from the perspective of identifying the fundamental need of each planet, and reflecting on how these needs combine to produce character. I've then somewhat tweaked them to ensure that they also function at a predictive and mundane level. Here is the current summary of Principles.

I absolutely love the summaries. They seem to capture the essence of each aspect. I might use these in some software for my personal use.
How much change would be needed for chart A to chart B aspects? How different are solar Venus aspect natal Moon, Moon-Venus interaspect in synastry, Moon to Venus by transit or progression? And likewise for the other 44 pairs. Maybe a two line summary, X aspect Y in the same chart, X aspect to Y in another chart.

Well, I'd have to look excample by example; I'm putting off for a while fully vetting and reassessing my synastry aspects. You could research this for us? (Those interpretations are already in the synastry section, in case you didn't know, but I'm intentionally leaving them not "neatly" written as rewrite is pending, something I'll probably not get to for a year or two.)

I will give it some thought and see what I can come up with after studying some. I'll send Jim something for vetting if I come up with something that pleases me. Maybe starting my research with the inside-outside theory of solunars.

BTW, Mike, these are already included in the Solar Fire natal interpretations file at the following link, including the second link which is a Word file to make these usable without Solar Fire:

In the summaries, I just completely rewrote Moon-Sun. The archetypal style of the old one was too abstract to be practical. This one is better.

BTW I never looped back on this thread to mention that I did go back and do the same sort of thing for synastry interchanges, given in the first post on this thread:
